What is the rationale behind the “ask a trader” forum? I tried to post on the dehumidifier question and got the " Sorry, but only users granted special access can reply to posts in this forum " message.

Isn’t it possible for questioners to sort the wheat from the chaff when looking for “professional” answers by the traders tag?

The usefulness of it seems to be further put in question by the fact that nearly half of the questions seem to go unanswered and that a second opinion is expressed on very few.

Why is it special?

Dick.

Hi Dick

I would guess it's so that threads are kept short, without the usual to and fro of discussion, and traders go somewhere specifically to check for questions in their sphere of operation.

My guess is that frankie-p, who asked the question, probably put it in the wrong forum (they're relatively new to the forum).

Maybe this question should be in the "Ask a Trader" (i.e. Nuke) forum too? Laughing

Gerald

Hi,

It would be very useful to know what supposed area expertise the Trade Member is claiming.

I have recently observed some very unhelpful and sarcastic remarks by a Trade Member on important tyre safety issues. I have no idea if he is qualified to give advice on these issues. I strongly suspect not but I think other members will be confused.

It would help to know their expertise as you say Bill. A valetter could post an answer on a base vehicle technical question. How much weight can we attribute to it? Is it more authoritative than someone would has owned and driven the model?

This system would suggest it is not fit for purpose. Is it an anachronism that pre-dates Trade tagging or is there logic?

Dick
