Our MH is currently on SORN and the MOT runs out in March, and it's not insured so how do I get it to it's MOT, and is there a reasonable way for us to insure it short term so we might have a couple weeks away before we put it up for sale.
I'd like to be able to take potential purchasers for a test drive with me driving of course.
Next question is more for the self builders out there.
Once the MH is sold we'll be looking for a van to convert, so insurance will become an issue there too, I'll need to be able to drive it as a van for a while, mhf insurance only give me 90 days to do the conversion and get it all certificated and the V5 changed to reflect the new status, which I know will not be enough, so what's the best way to do it, and who with, cost being an issue as always.
I would start by finding self build insurance companies. Then ask them about insuring your current MH while you sell then on the new van while the conversion is in progress. That way you can cover all your plans. Make sure you get it in writing.

You don't generally need an MOT to take out an insurance policy although it might be a condition of some policies that there is an MOT. All policies will require that the vehicle is in a roadworthy condition and whilst an MOT is evidence of that at a point in time, it isn't necessary to prove it. As for short term cover, some policies will allow you to cancel with no penalty or admin charge so you could always look for one of those. I also believe that policies you buy online (and possibly over the phone as well) allow you to cancel within 14 days if the policy isn't suitable. For example the wording on a car policy I've just taken out says: "We hope you are happy with your policy. However if it does not meet with your requirements please return all documents including the Certificate of Motor Insurance within 14 days of receipt". So, if you are thinking of no more than 14 days away including the MOT and you happen to decide after 13 days that the policy doesn't meet your requirements......
I was hoping someone might have been in a similar situation, or had gone down the same road, I have looked on Google, the problem is of course that they can say one thing and do another, leaving me in an awkward spot, if things don't go as planned.
Any personal experiences out there I can draw from.
Thanks Stanner but not quite the cover I was looking for.
In that case you are going to need to contact a few brokers to see if they can rustle up some form of bespoke policy to suit your needs - just don't expect it to be cheap though.
Using someone like dayinsure simply allows you to have an insured vehicle for test drives etc. as and when you need it, no more or no less cover than required at the time.

If you could possibly provide myself with a contact number and time to contact, I will be happy to help you with your enquiry.
It all sounds pretty straight forward and we will have markets to cover you for the Motorhome (test drives) and then a swap to a camper in conversion using the same underwriter
Many Thanks

We can but hope that the premium will be within reach.
I realise your intention Stanner, just that it's not a solution to the main problem, but I've bookmarked it for future reference.
I have 2 quotes, 1st is without breakdown 2nd is with.
Quote is for
Me only driving, 2001 MH, 3k per year, (didn't see the point in going for more miles as it's up for sale come Easter time) insured for normal use inc Europe 60 days, once sold it can be transferred to another van and I can take as long as I need to convert it (max 12 months obviously, and then transfer the policy to the newly converted van.
You will notice a discrepancy with the two final figures as the difference does not equate to the cost of the Flux Rescue, this is due to me asking them to reduce the cost as I had a better offer already, and they obliged.
