We are planning a trip to Morocco and our current insurance policy does not cover for this country, nor can it be extended. Has anyone else had this problem, does anyone know of any insurance companies which will arrange temporary cover for a period of 28 days in Morocco.

Hiya

We bought ours from the insurance booth 20 yards from the customs exit in the Tangier port itself. Precisely what is covered we never found out, although fluent French would help, but that seemed the only option at the time for us. The company has offices in many places and posted rates, but I think require cash if I remember correctly. There are money changers both in adjacent booths, as well as inside the Gare Maritime building maybe 100 yards further up and an ATM in there too.

The best option for peace of mind may well be to cancel your current policy and go with someone who will cover you, even if it costs you a little more.

Berylandbern,

I would second what grizzlyj has said !!

When we used to own a large motorhome, and toad, we had to change insurers in order to get cover to go to Morocco....even if it costs you extra to do this (& it probably will !) it will be worth it for peace of mind !!

BTW....if you get as far as Agadir please call in to see us, we are here until the middle of March.....

Jenny and Gordon Smith..

from Easter-September we are in Hemsby ( working in a campsite ) ...then we travel to Agadir, Morocco for the rest of the year in the sun.

We love to meet everyone...just PM us for our address !

Safeguard provide 90 days of fully comprehensive cover in Morocco and provide a Green Card stating as such for no extra cost on top of your standard premium.

I would not trust any locally purchased insurance for anything other than keeping you legal.

Hi G,

I spoke to ADAC two months ago and they were unable to insure a UK registered vehicle in any scenario, can let me know who you spoke to or what number to contact them on?

Hi Addie; ADAC are doing our breakdown insurance cover in Morocco while we are there. The rest of the vehicle insurance is- as we normally have it- with Saga. The lady to contact is:

Amanda.Moser-Wickles@sby.adac.de

Here is the confusion; nobody on this thread has yet mentioned breakdown cover but you said "ADAC also provides cover" - breakdown cover perhaps, but motor insurance for a UK reg'd vehicle unfortunately not Sad

I worked on the assumption- a reasonable one I think- that the OP has an insured MH for the trip from UK to Spain and is only short of breakdown insurance once they cross into Morocco.

To be honest I'm not sure I would trust any UK insurer either, for a recovery or just tracking down parts and someone to fit them. I wonder if anyone here has had to claim while in Morocco?

Personally, I took a big toolkit, crossed my fingers, and drove more defensively than I ever have!
