I am no photographer - I'm a snap taker.

I have a Nikon Coolpix L22, around a year old. Very pleased with it's performance, 99% of which has been in the auto setting mode (point and snap).

Recently it's started producing some bad pictures.

It only happens indoors when the flash triggers - the picture comes out all orange/red and quite blurred.
If, in the same room at the same time, the flash doesn't trigger, the picture comes out perfect.

I suspect person or persons unknown have been fiddling with the settings somewhere but I can't see where and don't want to fiddle myself with settings I don't understand.

I'm hoping to be swamped in lots of layman speak advice.

Thanks.

Tony,

I used to have a Nikon Coolpix 5900 (on loan to eldest son who didn't look after it too well whilst on the beach Evil or Very Mad ).

The Nikon handbook for ours describes the procedure for restoring the factory default settings - there is a chance that yours will behave in a similar way.

The instructions are:
Rotate the Mode Dial to SETUP to select Reset All

Does that help at all? If it does, great - if not, at least it gives you a bump.

Good luck with getting it sorted.

Regards,
John

It sounds to me like you may have listed the good and bad pictures the wrong way round. Why? Well if you shoot indoors on auto with the flash enabled the flash should fire ok. If you then shoot again immediately afterwards the flash will not have had time to recharge and will not fire. This gives a blurred picture that is tinted yellow/orange by normal tungsten liight bulbs.

Another likely cause which is very common is big fingers! Small cameras like the L22 are designed in such a way that it is easy to cover the flash and/or the flash sensor with you finger. Just think of Hyacinth Bucket holding a cup of tea when taking a picture and point your pinkies away from the camera.

Don't know specifically about your camera, but it sounds like a white balance issue, so if you don't want to go for the suggested factory reset, which would reset all your settings, have a look if you can find white balace, settings and check them.
