Looking at an a frame from Chris Cox to tow a 2003 Smart car and he has told me it will be fitted with 'spin off knuckles'. Does anyone have a photo of this type of Chris Cox install?

Thanks.

PS I am aware of peoples 'issues' and 'legalities' with a frames. I am happy that for our use we are fine.

Somewhere in the archives on here are my photos of what you have asked for - perhaps a Mod can help. In the meantime I will try and locate the originals

I have used Chris Cox and Tow a Car, much prefer the later much easier to handle when fitting and removing, the one advantage the Car a Tow has is that it will go vertical when disconnected from the motor home, I fix mine with a cable and allows the toad to be quickly disconnected and parked

Note that on the photos, the black thing to the right is the socket for the electrics. You can opt to have it like that, alternatively have the socket under the bonnet (*) and feed the wire from the a-frame there.

(*) Think the original question was about a Smart, which obviously doesn't have an opening bonnet. From memory I think Chris tucked the socket under the back of the bumper...either way it wasn't visible like the ones in the photo.

I have a Chris Cox A-Frame - it works well. Have covered some 4,000 miles in the last year with no issues at all. It is a little unwieldy to stow but, hey, you don't do that every day!
Would recommend as good robust system, well made. It gives confidence of having a long life ahead - a couple of the others I looked at were not only costlier but also, although lighter, did not seem to offer the same life expectancy.

Cheers
Alan

We have the above A frame fitted to our 2006 Smart Brabus, and the screw in bolts are hidden in the front bumper skirt, with two black plugs that just pull out, so none of the A frame connection is visible when not connected which we like. It is heavy, though, but have towed throughout UK and Europe .
Regards

We have a 2010 Smart and our brackets are fitted under the front apron. They are very neat, but very low. I have hit the kerb a few times with them and bent the brake cable. I just have to be a bit careful when parking in a bay with a kerb at the front.
I have not taken the car onto a ferry yet to see if it grounds on the ramp, as I say it is very low with a ground clearance of only about 5".
The 7 pin socket is under the bonnet, which is removable.
Still the best A frame IMO.
