Do you have a particular email address that you need to import into "Outlook" or are you looking for a new email address?

Assuming it's a Windows or Linux laptop and not a Mac (they have an e-mail program as standard) I would suggest Thunderbird. It's a free open source e-mail client from the Mozilla organisation - very good and fully featured.

http://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird

Just check before downloading that it has correctly identified your operating system (it's in the green 'click to download' lozenge). When I navigate to the page it auto-detects Mac OSX, but for you it should identify Windows or Linux as appropriate.

Then Thunderbird is the one for you (near neighbour).
