Having been into an Alden agent recently in Villeneuve sur Lot and seen the prices for their equipment I was heartily relieved that ours was done by VanBItz...........
the system in France (and the Alden range are French made) is about 30% more expensive from our experience AND they cannot cope with Astra 2 and UK set up......
If you have the time go to VanBitz or Ootdoor Bits on your way to the ferry if you are using the Plymouth route........
You also need to be very good with talking French in order to get them to understand AND you need your vehicle registration document, current MoT test certificate (if applicable) and a certificate of European conformity - just to book the vehicle in to have work done on it!
We were staggered by these requests but had them with us and complied quickly, but the charges were high for labour.......
(Ours had developed a fault which turned out to be due to a small piece of twig stopping the LNB bearing arm descending to it's correct position - the Alden agent failed to find it and it was only solved with extensive help from VanBitz who had installed the sytem)
I'll second Penguins statement....with knobs on. I had one fitted in France & wish I hadn't bothered. Very expensive & the receiver would only pick up French channels.
Cornish Farm is closer to Halifax than France, and Eddie speaks quite good English so you won't have a problem!!
Always worth thinking, "What if it goes wrong, or the satellite people change the transponder frequencies AGAIN and it needs re-configuring?"
Far easier to get Eddie to fix it (never the slightest hesitation with a genuine problem) and explaining what you want is easier in English, as said already.
Good choice, most kit like this is more expensive than in the UK and as has been said, satelite kits bought in France is set up for French satelites.
When we bought our van they put in a TV and receiver for us as part of the package but we then had to put in an additional receiver to get Astra2.
I will disagree though regarding labour charges. In our experiences labour charges are more often than not cheaper than the UK. Although not a main dealer, (always costly wherever you are), our local garage has just put his prices up to 28€ and hour, until recently they were only charging 22€. So at todays exchange rate that works out at around £23.50 an hour that's about the rate my local garage in the UK was charging nearly 10 years ago before we moved over here.
Why not just go for a crankup system. £400 + & 40 for a freeview box from Maplins. I fitted our system nearly 6 years ago while on a C&CC site in Weston.S.M. Only took 3 hours to fit. Has worked very well in France / Germany and North Spain for BBC/ITV
