We set off on Boxing day for 2 weeks in France with 2 x 6kg Calor bottles. We spent 4 nights on EHU, 10 not. We cook hot meals ( Mrs Adonisito does actually !) and had 3 non hook up showers, heating the water by gas. The heating was on every evening and morning on gas when not on EHU. By the time we got back to Wissant after 2 weeks the first bottle ran out.

So, my inference from this is that you can spend 4 winter weeks in France in comfort and relatively clean if 8 nights of this is on EHU and that 2 x 6kg Calor bottles will last you 20 nights, incuding about 6 hours a day heating !

Yes, I know that other vans are different but given the posts on here about gas usage, I thought I would stick it in. Confused

Thanks for that..... mine will last about a week (2x6Kg).... on gas the heating is normaley left on 24/7, normal use gas fridge the gas hob and oven.... if theres mains ie (6 amp) the gas will last longer, to say 12 days... as the fridge and heating would be on electric... with the gas heating used when we are showering... 12 ltrs of hot water for the shower lasts 5 minutes before it gets cold, and you are then remeinded that you cant have long showers Laughing Laughing I just cant get the larger cans in the locker....

My mate is fulltiming in his caravan and the Thetford fridge freezer has conked. It works on gas but not electric. He said he has used 6 kg of gas in one week, just for the fridge freezer. I think that is a bit excessive but it is what I was told.

We are in the Alps with night time temperatures of about -5, mostly on a site with hookup but not using electric heating (85p/KWh metered) but using the sites excellent showers.

We have been getting through a little less then 2kg per day for 24hr heating, cooking and hot drinks. 24ft well insulated van.

I don't think that there are any meaningful statistics for gas usage.

All units use gas differently and there are so many imponderables that there can be no general usage figures.

You would have to take into account such things as outside temperature, insulation levels, how you like your steak, rare or well done. The possibilities are endless!

My advice is to make sure you can refill anywhere or at any time.
