Hi everyone - can anyone help save what's left of my sanity please.
I have a lovely all in one Canon Pixma printer and so far I am really pleased with it. However it has a strange habit of printing my documents upside down
This isn't a problem of course with word documents but I print a lot of labels (jam and chutney labels and address ones) and use the Avery sef adhesive sheets with 21 labels per page.
If I only use a few labels at a time - which is often the case I am then left with the next starting point somewhere in the middle of the sheet. There are 3 columns and 7 rows of labels.
I use the Avery Design Pro software to design the labels and it very helpfully allows you to position your labels anywhere you want....good so far. The problem then begins when I insert the sheet of labels into the printer. Bare in mind it reads the document upside down to me so 9 times out of ten it will print in the wrong place and I end up tearing my hair out in frustration.
It doesn't help that I am not particularly gifted in trying to work out how the printer is reading the sheet of labels
Is there any way I can get the printer to print out the same way as I am looking at the document?
By the way it doesn't help to turn labels upside down!
Does anyone else have this problem or even know what I am talking about?

This is a case of remembering which way to insert the sheet. Easiest way to do this is:
Next time you need to print labels, set up the software as usual. Then before printing insert a blank sheet of normal paper with an X marked on the front edge of the upper side. Print the labels on this sheet and when it comes out you will be able to work out which way to insert your label sheet without ruining it. Keep the normal paper sheet for future reference.

You may be able to change this behaviour in the printer management software for your printer. If you are using Windows 7 then click on the start button and select 'Devices & Printers' - if you are using XP then select Control Panel and then Printers (I think).
Look for your printer in the window that is displayed and double click it - this will bring up the printer management software for your printer so now you're on your own to locate the option. I'm using an Epson printer and here the option is under 'Page Layout' and is 'rotate 180 deg'.
Perhaps someone with a Canon printer can be more specific about what you need to change.
BUT if you are only printing off a few and want to reuse the same sheet you have two choices (both fraught with problems IMO)
1. use the sheet of labels the wrong way up for the second lot - OK if you print half a sheet but nothing else......
2. set up to print a blank label - use that to print BEFORE you print the ones that you actually want e.g. if you have used 11 of the labels (out of 21), then print 11 of the BLANK labels before printing the next load of actual printed ones.
I did that with an HP printer and after a lot of mucking around eventually got it to work, then worked out that the cost of a whole sheet of labels is MUCH less than the time I had spent mucking about, after that I printed 21 each time and kept/discarded the ones left........ That was the easiest answer although wasteful of resources.....
Label printing has always been a problem, even with Avery software, Gerry idea usually worked for me, but I gave up in the end and stated doing bespoke labels using MS Publisher, less problems after that.
OK guys - not sure if I can explain properly why Gerry's idea does not work for me. I did think of that and believe me tried it many times but if you can try to visualise the sheet after I have printed off say 8 labels. That would be the top 2 rows and 2 labels off the 3rd row would now be used leaving 1 spare label on the 3rd row and the 4 rows of labels.
Like Dave has said you can then just turn the sheet and use it that way as if it was a fresh page of labels - which is what I do most of the time leaving me with about 6 or 8 unusable labels in the centre of the page because its so hard to work out how to set the printer to pick them up.
I do agree about time and cost etc - no arguement there, it just drives me nuts to be beaten by a piece of machinery
Thanks Bill for the info about settings I will definitely give it a go. Just made 3 jars of marmalade and printed off the labels - leaving 6 scattered across the middle of the ruddy page so will try it next time I make a batch of jam.

I have a pixma 4700. It takes the paper in from the tray at the bottom of the printer then it goes up and doubles back on itself so it's printing on the side that was facing downwards in the paper tray. If you do as Gerry suggests you'll be able to visualise it better.
Also, in the Print Dialogue you should be able to select which row and which column you want the printing to start at and how many to do. Always put a blank sheet in first to check you've got it right.
There's also an online Avery label print utility: Avery

Bill - can I send you a great big kiss please X
It worked - I found the rotate 180 degrees option and ticked that and bingo - it bloody worked.
I am so grateful - not just because it will save me wasting endless labels but because it was like an itch you couldn't reach and now it's well and truly scratched.
Thank you thank you thank you.
