Have just powered the sat system up after 5 months and it will not lock onto its usual Astra 2S. It searches and eventually shuts down.
Its the Alden SSC Orbiter and Pace Sky mini box with home viewing card inserted.
Is it possible for the system to loose any stored memory due to no power for this length of time
Located in Yorkshire
Perhaps, like other systems, the transponder / frequency that the system is trying to lock onto is not longer active, so the system cannot find that frequency to lock on.
The SSC unit is the one that controls the dish movement.
So, if the SSC unit is looking at a now defunct frequency, then it will not be able to lock on.
Assuming all cabling and LNBs are working.
Using the recent oyster sytem problems as an example, if the unit was set to look for frequency 12441, then since October / Nov 2011, this frequency no longer carries any channels. So somewhere / somehow, you may need to get the unit to look at another frequency for it to lock onto the satellite - 12207 - sky news for example
Sky boxes have no ability to control dishes, so that is not the problem.
Ran a temporary cable from the SSC box to the LNB and the dish found Astra straight away all working ok.
Then reconnected original cable , unable to lock on again.remade the screw ends but looks as if the original sat cable is u/s.
Is it an easy job to change, has anyone done one before
I had exactly the same problem which eventually was found to be a small piece of twig stopping the LNB arm descending fully......
Renewing the cable was described as "not easy" when I was talking to installers, we had arranged that if the replacement cable worked but the original did not we would take the van back to VanBitz who installed it..........
as you will appreciate that was NOT something we were keen to do, but as the problem was sorted without that I was very relieved.
I would contact whoever installed it and ask them how difficult it is to replace, be guided by them.........
says he who was not looking forward to the hassle involved in such a change......
