I have heard it said that you cannot take a motorhome with an underslung gas tank on the channel tunnel. Would appreciate any comments re restrictions with this form of gas. Many thanks.

I believe the situation to be if the LPG gas tank is for Habitation heating and cooking, and can be isolated, then all should be ok.

If the LPG is the only source of vehicle fuel this is what they do not allow.

Dont take my word, have a look at the T&C's at www.eurotunnel.com

better still look HERE

I eventually found this section (not easy to find IMO);

http://www.eurotunnel.com/uk/traveller-info/vehicles/caravans-campers-vans-and-trailers/

which includes;

We are aware LPG tanks are essential for cooking, refrigeration, heating etc, but request the appliance is switched off before boarding and during the entire crossing. Tanks up to 47kg may be carried, but must be less than 80% full. For your own safety and the safety of others, you will need to demonstrate this before you travel.

Hope that reassures you,

Dave

I have a fixed under slung tank and use the Tunnel, all you need to do is turn it off, they won't accept being told it's off you have to show them it's turned off

Found this on their site. Says it all.

We regret that LPG (or equivalent flammable gas) vehicles cannot be transported by Eurotunnel Le Shuttle even if it is being used as a secondary fuel source. However other dual powered vehicles can be accepted e.g. petrol/electric. Check the acceptability of your vehicle.

I have an underslung LPG tank which is for the habitation side of the van. I have been through the tunnel several times. All I have ever done is show the 'man' that it is turned off. Had no problem!!

It doesn't actually as has been stated, the OP has underslug tank, for habitation use, not a vehicle driven on LPG.

There is another associated page for Motorhome LPG usage and what is acceptable to Eurotunnel for you to use the tunnel.

Many posts above have stated the correct links, the OP is ok to use the tunnel !!

Agree LPG POWERED vehicles, i.e. those that use LPG as a fuel tp propel the vehicle along CANNOT be carried through the tunnel as the LPG supply cannot be switched off.

Vehicles where LPG is used for habitation or cooking CAN be carried as it is easy to demonstrate that the LPG cylinders are switched off i.e. the supply is isolated and CANNOT leak even if the pipe breaks....

Once you find the relevant section for Motorhomes and caravans it is clear, it is just not so easy to find IMO.

Hi folks
Many thanks to you all for the invaluable comments on LPG containers that are underslung. In my first question I think I omitted to say that it was for habitation use only. The comments and relevant sites for further info were really helpful. Many thanks.
