Having recently purchased a 2007 Autotrail Cheyenne SE 660
3.0 MJTD the wife and I ( and the dog ) took our first trip down to the Caravan Clubs Morton in Marsh site last weekend.

Had a great time, no major issues with the motorhome and site was far better than I had expected.

Main conclusions we drew were that we need to invest in 2 things.

Some sort of tv ariel, as the one on the van appears not to work at all, although this wasnt a problem last weekend as there was a ariel point on the hook up so we just plugged into the tv.

A Safari room / awning to give us more space when were away for any length of time.

So if theres anyone out there who either owns the same motorhome, or has good knowledge of them, and can offer any reccomendations, I'd be delighted to hear from you

Dave

Oh ! And one other thing I've decided I want, a box fitted on the back for additional storage. Not on the roof as high enough already ! Laughing

Same question, where what or reccomendations ?

Dave

Dave,

When you are using the installed "Ariel" did you switch the 5v switch on the status amplifier ??

Hi Steve,
T.V. reception at Moreton in Marsh is very poor, so it's not a good place to experiment.

Hi Dave,
Before rushing into buying an ariel, test the one you have in a known reception area.

We all have trouble at M in M, that's why they have the T.V. booster in the bollards.

Regards and Enjoy,
Mike.

Nice to hear you enjoyed your first trip and had no problems.

You can watch TV till your eyes go square when you are at home but have you thought you might be better off without it when away in your camper.

You can plan trips, read books, read guides, listen to music, take the dog out, etc. etc. and you won't miss the box when you get used to it, particularly bearing in mind the majority of TV is banal rubbish anyway.

Glad it went well.

We use our van a lot and we watch a lot of TV. I got sick within the first six months of having the van of never knowing if we would get TV reception or not so in the end we got a Camos Satellite Dome fitted.

No problems now and of course it works abroad as well.

Hi Pewster,

I wouldn't recommend a Safari room. Too heavy. Takes up a lot of storage space. Is a bugger to erect and Ask yourself why there are so many for sale second or third hand. I would recommend the Movelite pro Explore. Its light. Packs up into a small bag and comes with two web sliders to go into a variety of Motorhome awnings. The price is £189 and you can put it up yourself, with no help and it takes me about 15 mins. Your safari room will take about an hour. It won't have as big a 'footprint as the Safari room but we have got 10 people in for a sit down meal so its plenty big enough. The main difference between Motorhomers and caravaners is that we tend to be more nomadic and don't stay in one place for too long whereas the caravaners tend to pitch up and stay longer which is why they have such substantial awning tents.

Hope this helps.................. Ned

thanks for all the comments so far, and no were not planning to spend hours in front of the telly, just nice to have one on after the pub before bed Laughing

most urgent thing i think is the safari room / awning , really want the extra space, especially with the dog with us and a place to remove muddy boots and clean paws !

Hi Dave
Congrats on the new vehicle. A great choice. I hoe you enjoy your travels for many years to come.
I would agree 100% with Ned. Safari rooms are very heavy and quite bulky. You do not see too many around on sites/rallies unless the user is staying on one place for a long period. The more popular is the "tunnel" style awning whic comes in2 or 3 sections. Very lightweight and does pack up small. Cost is a quarter of the Suncamp Safari room.
The awning is ideal for sitting out during the day, keeping the dog in and the bikes. If you go down the route of an awning MAKE SURE you get one for a motorhome as the Auto Trail is quite a tall van in comparison to some others and you may find with a caravan awning the the habitation door snags on the awning roof when you try and open it.

There is a drive away awning for sale here. Not my choice but it may suit your need Auto Trail Owners' Club Classified Ads.

Regarding your TV you need to check a couple of things each time you arrive on site.
Look around for other TV aerials (house or van) and point yours in the same direction.
Turn the entertainment system on
Turn the status aerial on and the secondary switch gain control to high
Now this is the important bit
Within the on screen menu using the remote find the "reset factory settings" click on that and reset the system back to basics, then do a auto search. This should find you loads of TV and Radio channels.
The reason is that the Freeview box retains a memory of the stations it found last time it was on. When you go to another area and search for stations you will be searching from a new transmitter station. If the Freeview box memory is full it cannot store any more from the new transmitter. I am not sure what the memory is, but I would guess at around 100. By resetting the box back to factory settings it wipes out those in the memory.
I have reset loads of TV for Auto Trail owners who experience the same problem, usually saying "It worked at the dealers on handover and it has not worked since"! Some of the people I helped have had the van for years with no TV! Bliss Very Happy

Enjoy the van!
