We are considering leaving from Santander last week august for 6 weeks and travelling around Asturias, Castilla y Leon, Galicia and Cordillera Cantabria, we enjoy wildcamping, mountains, walking, wine and local food.
September seems a long time away sitting here looking at grey skies.

Any suggestions welcome.

cheers
bill

Places that stand out in my memory are Finisterre on the west coast and not to be missed Santiago de Compostela and all the walking routes to it, all are very well sign posted

I have dug out my old map and I only mark a map if a place is worth second visit, I can't remember why but here goes, working west from Santander, San Vinente de la Banquera ( good beach parking) , La Franca ( good beach ),Cudillero, Foz ( best mussels in Spain),Ferrol ( which is like the coast of Cornwall ), practice your Spanish because they don't see many Tourists up this way

We've done this twice as wife is from La Coruna. We stayed at Llanes in the car park on Playa del Toro (signposted). Luanco on the cliff top, go down to the quay or playa and turn right up a hill. Luarca, Camping Playa Tauran (good natural site). Beach at San Antolin (well known wild site) but not great in August, Torre de Hercules car park (La Coruna) and Los Manzanos campsite near La Coruna. Loads of other wild places all along the coast , you just have to look. Smashing tour and we went high season with no bookings!

Can't wait to go back. I can give more accurate descriptions and locations if you would like them, the diary is in the van!

I agree that La Coruna is not to be missed. We managed to pitch up when the Torre de Hercules car park was packed because of a football match on the pitch next to it. We tried the Aquarium car park nearby but the van got soaked with spray and we eventually spent the night on the aire at the end of the prom :

A very atmospheric night ! There is an interesting bar with food at the bottom of the aire, next to the sea. It shows up well on Street View.

It's a wonderful coast but take your wet weather gear as it is not called Green Spain for nothing !

Reading the above looks like you have plenty to go on but you might like to read my blog of our trip in 2009 >here< You can be selective and only read the bits about northern Spain.
