Hi an update we just came back from the Manchester Motorhome show, wow it was packed. One of the good things about attending is that it made my friend see that an American RV would suit the family so much better than a motorhome.

I thought that the motorhomes on show were really nice. Thank you for all the help and suggestions regarding motorhomes. it really helped me ask the right questions. xxx Marsha

Just a point to note though. Be careful on the weight of the RV - you or your friend may not have the correct licence to drive it. Some of them require a totally different licence.

I am sure there will be someone along shortly to explain it better than I can.

All the same, enjoy the motorhoming/RVing - it is a fantastic way of seeing the countryside and at your own pace. Once you start, you won't be able to give it up! Wink

He has a C1 licence and got his license in 1977. He is aware of the tolls roads etc. With a C1 licence he can drive up to 7.5 tonne I am led to believe. He will be travelling in 2013 for almost 6 weeks across America so needs to have the experience of an American RV.

So he doesnt have a limited budget for France.

Best of luck - should be an interesting trip. Didn't know that there were RV's for hire in UK but then again, I never looked. Never too old to learn........ Smile

Just one point (don't think anyone's mentioned it yet). I recall you mentioning Calais, but not whether he's planning to use tunnel or ferry.

If tunnel, note that many RVs are dual fuel (LPG), and Eurotunnel don't allow LPG conversions.

An rv under 7.5 tonne and with a decent payload, they've got to be rarer than rocking horse droppings. Wink
