Opps - maybe this isn't the correct forum but hey ho . .[I did post this earlier but think it got 'lost' . .
I've treated myself to one of the little cab video camera [from China] which cost me £21 [inc P&P] . . having inserted in a 4Gb card I've been giving it a good testing, and whilst I've no comparison with one of the more expensive units on the market, I've got to say that I'm quite pleased with it . . I've read that some say "build quality" is poor but my opinion is that its quite sturdy & well made - [although I wouldn't want to throw it around to test its capacity to resist damage] . . setup was initially quite baffling [more due to the Chinese into English translation of the instruction sheet] but once understood its a doddle to setup & operate.
The 4Gb card give a recording time of around 2.5hrs before it re-records over the earlest video clips, the date & time is captured on screen too.
[it offers a choice of 2 minute/5min or 15min segment recording with a choice of VGA & SVGA, also a choice with or without sound & choice of on/off IR lighting [although ok for making anything with 3metres lighter, I'm not sure of the benefit of lighting up the road ahead!, it will also take single shot pic's & playback via the units folding screen. whilst it does continually record-there is a 3second gap between segments so fingers crossed nothing vital happens during that period !
With a 16Gb card recording time rises to a whopping 9hrs - my guess is that an 8Gb card would be enough to record & capture a 'normal' [for me] days driving. It has an internal battery [rechargable like a mobile phone battery] but I've been using it plugged in so can't say how long you could use it before the battery goes flat-but long enough to use it away from the car/van.
The unit is fixed to an ajustable suction plate for sticking to the screen [although I've been using a spare mobile phone holder].
All in all, I have to say that [for the price] I'm quite pleased with it [but then again I love gadgets].
It comes with USB cable & 12v charger
I got mine off e-bay from China but there are UK retailers advertising them too at various prices between £25 & £40 !!
the model I got is :-
