Anyone had experience with insurance and rear seat belts? I know this has probably been debated but say a motorhome has rear side seating but only lap belts, is this something that will be an issue with regards to insurance? I know they normally ask how many forward facing seats with belts there are.

The only people who can answer that question are your insurers.

despite having 3 different vans and getting dozens of quotes, we've never been asked about seat belts in any way.
I would assume the issue wouldn't arise unless it was a self build or an after market change to the seat belts or the mountings, and the quality or suitability of the fixing/mounting integrity.
The question of type is I think down to conscience, I'd not entertain lap belts in any vehicle.
I Don't know from an insurance point of view, but I would think lap belts fitted to side facing seats would be as bad as no seat belt
If you are talking aftermarket fitted Belts then the issue is certifying them as fit for purpose, a crash test is the only way to prove they would not fail in a crash
I have never been asked the question about rear seat belts either, like others I would be very wary of trying to have seat belts fitted afterwards as the anchorage is difficult to guarantee.
Due to these difficulties most fitters will not entertain the idea (and those that would are probably the one's to avoid! ) of fitting them.
Your insurance will depend on the number of seats declared on the registration document, if you exceed that number your insurance could be invalid.
Our, nominally 4 berth MH, only has the two at the front, IF we wanted to carry anyone in the back they cannot have a seat belt - hence we are not at all keen on the idea of carrying people other than us 2........
The wearing of seatbelts has been discussed at length on here and is clear in that if no seat belts are fitted it is legal to carry adults (but not children) in the rear without them. BUT legal does not mean SAFE.
