hi all,
I have a PVC on a 2002 fiat ducato, i connected up a lighting board to the electric socket for the first time today, everything works ok BUT when the indicators are used a beeping noise comes from the back of the van, sounds a bit like a reversing warning noise, timed with the flasher. Note this noise only happens when the lighting board is used, otherwise just the usual clicking noise in the cab. What do you think? someone had a louder warning noise installed for use with a trailer? Why? why at the back of the van? a bit of a mystery to me, any clues?

cheers
 Found out why

Well, after trawling the net it seems this is a legal requirement. Except that such buzzers may not actually meet the needs of the law.
I never knew that and one was not fitted to my car by the towbar fitters either!

It is in the relay box that run the lighting board. Some you can run a wire to the cab area and fit a small lamp that flashes when the indicators are working.

It is at the back of the van because the fitter was lazy and it saved extending the buzzer wires. It is a legal requirement that there is a warning device of the non operation of trailer indicators and the buzzer is one of the standard ways of complying with the law.

If you locate it, probably behind one of the lamps there will be a small grille where the beep comes from, put a bit of insulating tape over it and it muffles it to an acceptable level.

I could of course have got the wrong end of the stick but I thought the OP was complaining it wasn't loud enough?? Confused

Not complaining, at the time just mystified as to what it was. Now I understand and thanks to all for helping me out. As a newcomer to motorhomes, this site is a fantastic resource. So many questions and so many helpful people out there.
