Just had our first weekend in the new van and it has an factory fitted AVTEX 16" tv /dvd with USB PVR...
Attempted to use my hard drive on it to see if it would play any .avi or .xvid files and NO.. Sad It came up as files un-supported..

Any one got more info on these TV's and if they will play film files.. I had a quick look in the manual and thought I saw something about mpeg4 files...
I have a lot of films and tv shows already saved as .avi and .xvid that work a treat on my cheapo Asda LED TV..

Any input welcomed..

I'm sure thay will.. I like my HDD so am dissapointed that such an expensive TV wont play anything but an £85 Asda special plays everything I plug in and uses 1/2 the power !!

As well.. somethig else to play with and sort out Smile

Try putting a film on to a memory stick and try that.
My tv plays them on a 32gig memory stick but will not work with a HDD for some reason.

Hi Tonka

We have a 16" Avtex and it does play films via the USB

There are likely to be reasons for the films not playing from your Hardrive

1 The DivX facility is switched off on your unit. We have come across occasions where the TV is supplied with DivX turned off and ours was such a case.

2 The Harddrive has to be formatted in Fat32 and yours is likely to be in NTFS

3 The format you have the films stored in

Solutions

To check the DivX is switched on.

Turn on the TV.

Press Source and select DVD

Press DVD again when the DVd function is on and says it is trying to find and load or eject a Disc.

You should now have the DVD setup screen with Language highlighted at the top.

Press the following number

9210

A screen should appear with 4 lines, the last being DivX either showing on or off.

If it says Off press 9

It should change to On.

Now press ok then Exit to get you back to the DVD screen

Now try and load you film onto a USB stick and it will play.

To get it to play from a Harddrive I have purchased a Transcend Storejet 650Gb and have over 600 films and programmes stored on it. These units are designed for a bit of rough handling so ideal.

The films and programmes I have stored are in .avi format with an Mpeg4 codec,

The benefit is storage plus use less power when playing back than the tv would use with Discs.

We have found the 18" model has a different method of getting into the setup so if you have a problem let us know the model and we could try something else.

Hope this helps

Doug

Further to my earlier post I would comment as follows

I don't know how many films or programmes you have on your harddrive but as I said I have 600+

I strongly recommend you create Folders on the drive and then save the films in the folder that corresponds to the film title

ie Airplane in the A folder.

Its murder finding them otherwise.

I have then used a Free programme called Karens Directory Printer to give me a catalogue of whats on the drive.

Doug..
Cheers for the info..
Its a 16" with DVD and PVR facility.
Found the menu you mentioned and it was already turned on for divx. Had another go and did the same..
It reads my HDD ok, it's a Samsung 500gb and all format as Fat32.
I have files contained within folders and it can see all the folders but does not see any individual files within them.

Have my son coming for tea later, he's a bit more "savvy" with all these file types and codec etc.. Get him to earn his food and check it out Laughing

Like I say, £85 Asda 15" LED in the old van.
Plug in same HDD and it plays everthing..

Hi Steve

At least you now know that it is the file format that needs sorting. If the TV can see the rest then you are nearly there. Once cracked you will be well away.

As I have indicated I use Magic DVD Ripper very successfully and it produces all sorts of formats suitable for many different players such as Ipod, Ipad and Iphone, as well as PSP etc etc. I set it to .avi with Mpeg4 Codec.

There are a few free software programmes but in the end after trialing it I paid the price for M D R.

Hope you crack it. It took me a little while.

Doug
