Here we sit watching a bit of telly at Brownhills Newark, breaking our journey on route for Dover and our 10 week stay in Spain. A casual remark about our sky box enlightened us to the fact it is still sitting 300 + miles North..... at home....
Our Sat dish is 1.1m and we've never had any problems picking up channels with sky box as far south as C del Sol & Portugal but haven't used a freesat box before, wondering do they work in Spain?
you should have the same results as your sky box only with the free to view channels..... most of the bbc channels have moved to astra d which have a narrow beem centred on the uk so if you have not been down south for a few months you'll notice some changes.....
Yes Freesat is available in Spain.
Yes Freesat boxes work in Spain.
Only Freesat boxes get Freesat. You cannot get Freesat on a Sky Box. (Freesat software is only on Freesat boxes!)
A Sky box with no viewing card will get the same (free to air) channels as a Freesat box.
A Sky box with a "freesatfromsky" card, or subscription card will receive the free to air AND free to view channels (FTV channels include Pick TV Sony TV, LFCTV, Motors TV)
The only limitiation is the dish size required for some channels in some areas of Spain.
BBC1 /2/3/4 channels have been on the Atsra 2d beam for several years. The only recent changes are BBC News, Parliament and Alba, which recently move to 2d, so those are the only differences you may notice with regards to BBC channels.
Freesat and Sky use the same satellites and exactly the same transmissions. The difference is the software, EPG etc.. In fact most Freesat boxes have the ability to switch to a non Freesat mode and you can then pick up additional channels such as Sky News.

Thanks satnpcguy.....yes aware that Freesat only works with freesat boxes. We haven't had a sky card for years and only use it for a few free channels!
Our dish is 1.1m and we haven't had any problems to date getting channels all the way south with the usual blip around Alicante!
Will get the box from Curry's and hope for the best!
