Good morning eggy soldier dippers

As usual when we bake a nice fresh loaf of bread to be ready for brekkers we have a boiled egg each with it.

Recently our local egg producer has closed down so our eggs are now from elsewhere ...and they have a little stamp on them.... I noticed the stamp while pricking a little hole in the air sac ( that stops them breaking in the boiling water Wink ) ...while I was eating and dipping I started to wonder just what the stamp would tell me and was the stamp info generally available.

Google came up trumps again and I found a website that has loads of info about eggs... it can even calculate how far your eggies have travelled to get to you:-

Organiclinker.com <<

Our eggs had travelled 47 miles from Banbury to get to us ....so now I am feeling guilty ...and my egg miles are mounting up, 94 miles this morning Shocked

have fun

Mike

Our eggs travel just half-a-mile from our local farm. They still got a stamp on them though.

BTW We got an auto egg cooking machine from Lidl/Aldi (?) which steams the eggs rather than immersing them in boiling water, much more energy efficient Wink

Our eggs travel nearly 8 metres to the kitchen......

we have 8 free-ranging hens, 2 came from the UK and 6 were "rescued" when a farmer near Eymet got rid of his flock - they cost us €15 for all 6 and two of them laid during the 30 minute journey home! Since then we have AVERAGED 4.5 eggs per day.......

which considering it is winter is pretty good we think.

They are also great fun and follow us round the garden whenever we go outside - we are rotten meanies as we close the door and stop them coming inside! But they did make friends with the builders when they were working in the git with the doors open......

So our egg miles are egg smiles Very Happy

Did they have to get a pet passport Laughing

We used to have hens until foxey loxey got a taste for them Crying or Very sad
Ours now come from a relations farm and are not stamped.

Question: Where do you keep your eggs - fridge or not?
I'm never sure whether they should be kept chilled or at room temperature.

This was my technique too until I tried Heston's. Put eggs in pan of cold water and bring to the boil as quick as possible. Take off heat and leave for 6 minutes. Works brilliantly. Didn't think I could be taught how to suck eggs Surprised

This weeks FR eggs from Tescos didn't find a supplier! As for keeping bread in the fridge been doing that for years. Keeps a loaf fresh for a week.
