Whilst there is no covenant stopping me storing my motorhome on the drive, I do feel that the neighbours would be happier if it was not there!

As it is at the moment, I have it hooked up so no problems with battery condition, but how do you cope with it in store?

Do the batteries run flat?

If so, what do you do about re-starting, other than calling out the breakdown truck?

Anything else I should look out for?

Many thanks

Allow your batteries to run flat and they will be ruined. Some storage facilities have a timed hook up, others will start the van up for you at a cost but most will do nowt. Most insurance companies require a van to be left at a CASSOA site.

Normally, with alarms etc, the vehicle battery will require a charge every 2 or 3 weeks.

It's easily fine at 3-4 weeks in my experience, and in isolated cases I've left for 8 weeks (with alarm activated).

It's rare that I leave my van for that long without going away, but if I do I just take it for a drive once a month. You can fit a batterymaster but seems a bit extreme to me....use the van rather than leaving it sat depreciating.

I could probably manage with my van on my drive, but I've always felt with that approach, I might as well hang out a sign saying "house empty, I'm away" when I went away so the van wasn't there.

Paul

we have ours in storage and I was worried about the same issue. Over the course of a two week period the vehicle battery lost approx 0.5 volt probably down to the cobra alarm system. The leisure battery has remained fully charged as there is no draw on it . We have put a small soalr panel (suitcase style from Maplin) on the dash which is connected to the leisure battery but I'm not sure it's strictly necessary.

When I have ours on the drive again I'll look at a way of connecting the solar panel to the starter battery to keep that topped as the panel pushes out 11.5 volts under normal daylight conditions

I'm sure there are other MHF members who can probably advise better than I can as I'm relatively new to this and it's our first experience of storage

I have rigged up the solar panels on my van to charge the leasure and van battery. It keeps them both fully charged.
Our solar is quite large but I would think a 80 watt panel would not only do the job but will be usefull while you use the van on your travels.
