I have a Rapido 707F on a Fiat Ducato 2.3 cab unit.

I am just back from North Spain where I had a steering failure. A hydraulic hose feeding the steering rack dropped onto the driveshaft and wore away. I then lost all oil and power assistance. It was lucky as we had just transited several 180 deg hairpin bends with long drops on the outside. Question Question

It looked as if the hose had not been re-clamped after moving it provide access when replacing the alternator. Can anyone tell me how Fiat would secure this hose which runs from the steering pump to the rack via the vicinity of the alternator.

Help needed - many thanks

Probably with a cable tie, you didn't suffer failure then just power assistance

Thanks guys.

The problem is when I had my alternator replaced the mechanic needed to unclip the hose to get clearance to enable removal of the alternator. After the new alternator was fitted I think he just pushed the hose back in place but didn't use tie-wraps to secure it. Consequently it dropped down onto the drive shaft and eventually wore through (see pic. if I can get it to display).

What I really need to know is how Fiat secure the hose as obviously it dosn't normally drop onto the drive shaft.
