Had my 2004 JTD ( 18,000 miles on the clock) Cambelt replaced today by our friendly neighbourhood garage.

Cost breakdown:

a. Kit of Parts = £138.95

b. Labour 3.5 hours @ £55/hour = £192.50

Total including VAT = ££397.74

So I'm quite happy to have that done (mainly peace of mind) as the garage is 15 mins bike ride away and he gave me a quote in early 2011 of £392.

That seems a little on the expensive side Harry as we only paid £350.00 at the local fiat main agent for the kit and the labour.

Fiat, Motorpark, Blackburn.

My van is 2.8 jtd and I did query this quote but that is what it came up on their computor as. I had had the belt done by a local firm two weeks earlier for £324!!!!

Seems a bit steep,it cost me just over £200 for the cam belt and tensioners changed at a local independent garage last year. That was on a 2.8JTD.

A franchised dealership will invariably be more expensive,I prefer to use a trustworthy local independent garage and an oily mechanic that you can talk to personally rather than a receptionist sat in front of a computer in a centrally heated showroom.

He used OEM and also showed me the old belt and tensioners which was reassuring. Wink
