Our Autocruise cab battery is losing its charge fairly quickly this year when not in use. Last couple of years it has held a charge for quite a while between uses, so we think its best to replace it. Hubby phoned our local battery dealer for advise on which type of battery and he wasn't sure and said we should contact Peugeot. Before we do that I thought we should ask here. What is the best type of battery for this vehical?

Hi............
There are several factors you need to consider.
First would be the amp/Hour rating (Ah)...........ideally you want the maximum you can fit in the space provided.
That brings me to my second factor...............size.
As the amp hour rating increases so does the size.
Thirdly the type of battery.
I know I will be pilloried over this by the purists but personally I would go for the cheapest lead acid leisure battery possible.
There are many reasons why, but basically unless you are prepared to keep your battery in tip-top condition throughout its life ... ensuring its charge is regulated and controlled....... and not allowed to discharge too far over the winter months then you would be wasting good money after bad if you had bought an expensive battery.

I'm sorry but if your battery supplier came up with that answer then I suggest you try someone else.

All suppliers will have a list of batteries for every model of car and van. The basis for the list is:

a) size - to physically fit within the compartment.

b) terminal layout - positive and negative terminals at the correct ends as per the original fitment

c) power output - sufficient to start the car/van and to at least last the warranty period and longer. There may possibly be two choices but usually only one.

All you need tell the supplier is the make, year and engine size of the van. I suggest you phone a few local Motor Factors. Ask how long the guarantee period is (this will give some kind of guide to the battery quality but is obviously not foolproof).

If you wish you can ask what the CCA (Cold Cranking Amps) rating is of the battery you are being quoted for. This is the only figure that has any relevance for a starter battery and is a fairly good guide as to its ability to turn an engine over. The higher this figure the better.

Pictures speak volumes. That's what fits, same cab etc.
No point skimping on a lower AH battery when the Autocruise has a battery selector switch. 5yr warranty is worth the little extra over lesser batteries.
If you can buy from Costco they would NOT dare to not honour warranty .
without quibble no matter if you flattened it.

same battery at Halfords Shocked forget it!

If you go to the Eurocarparts ( ECP ) website and enter your registrataion number, or make and type of vehicle, there will be a list of suitable batteries at various prices and warranty terms. Some are free delivery and some 'collect in store'.

ECP don't fit them though. They can be a bit tricky to remove from the boxer engine bay especially if the converter has mounted relays and other stuff in the way!

I would much prefer to buy a battery locally rather than mail order because if you do have any problems with it you may have to pay to return it to the 'mail order' supplier before they will test and agree a refund / replacement.

Armed with the bit of extra knowledge that you have gained here; you could try one of your local Battery and Tyre depots who would no doubt fit it free even though you may actually have to pay more for the battery .............. Smile
