Mrs Adonisito is hassling me about this. I can't keep fobbing her off with "next time" or a nice 26 course meal . I avoid cities at all times, but this time I won't get away with it. Please help with an overnighter, no sites of course, we want to walk to the Great Place.

Going in February.

Thanks

I agree with Peejay. We parked on the roadside parking area above the quai when we visited the cathedral, but we weren't staying the night, just passing through.

The first picture shows the ramp down to the quai and the second shows it in relation to the cathedral.

I recognise those pictures!!

However, we couldn't find any way down on to the quay.

We'd already been up and down some horrifically narrow streets round the cathedral, then coming across the bridge we could see where we wanted to go......

We never did get to stop in Rouen. That was back in 2010.

We were there in May 2009 in our pre satnav days. As Rouen is notorious for getting lost in we bought a local map of the area in Pont de l'Arche, and headed there from the south. It wasn't until after we'd stopped, and visited the cathedral, that we got lost in Rouen on our journey north Laughing

What helped us in finding the parking is that it was Sunday morning and there was very little traffic, so we could go slowly to look out for signs. It did mean that we clashed with 11 o'clock Mass though. Smile

If you check the commentaries on the campingcarinfos link on PeeJay's reply above, it indicates that the quays in Rouen have been closed and that a beautification programme begins in 2012!!

Well spotted Cornal, I've ammended the text in the MHF entry to reflect this and also moved the coords to the slip road entrance for when/if it reopens.

For adonisito, there is another one just down the road on a little island on the Seine if thats any help...

Rouen, Ile de Croix

Comment from apr 2011...
"Good evening,
Live from the car park very quiet with no services but very close to downtown (20 m / n on foot). Shops close (5 m / n). Very frequent rounds of the police. Facing the Seine

There is plenty of good parking on the road above the quai - noisy so you will want to move off for night time. It is free at the eastern end of town.

When we visited a couple of years ago we parked on the river spot (thats now closed) but decided it would be too noisy at night so we left the van there while we visited the town then moved down the Siene a bit to La Mailleraye sur Seine which is a lovely river side Aire. http://www.motorhomefacts.com/modules.php?name=Campsites&op=display_results&csid=505

The only thing I would watch out for if you go there is I think all the pitches are grass so if its been wet it might be a bit boggy
