2) after sampling my two efforts couldn't get my head round reading them
Love sloe gin, have never made it before.
got the recipe/formula from a friend who makes her own, made first lot using 1/2 of our sloes froze the rest
Told by magoo, he, who likes single malt and rarely posts, that I had 'done it wrong' his golfing mate/ex chef had some on the course and i had used too much sugar.
Went off to Lanzarote with the sagalouts brought back more cheap gin.
Made 2nd lot with 1/2 the sugar
Tonight was bored so decanted some of each let him do the 'taste test' no prizes for who gets the winner right
It's for those that say oh no thanks I don't like gin.
Truth is I doubt the vodka version will taste any different to the gin version.
My sloe gin is very good my tips are use a recipe with very low sugar freeze the sloes and bash them with a steak hammer or similar whilst still frozen (quicker than pricking them though you might want to do a risk assessment.)

My daughter in law made damson gin, very smooth. She gave me a bottle for new year but forgot to takeut with us, so will share it our next year in Kelso!!!!
You can make sloe gin any time, just pick the berries and freeze.
will have to secrete a bottle somewhere if I want it to last till new year at Kelso though
Used the BBC recipe, same as my friend's, for the first batch.
Frozen smashed berries and half the sugar for the second lot.
No taste of gin and most definately nothing like cough medicine, well not any I have tried.
Will try with vodka next year.
Will also try with damsons and want to try raspberry vodka but am meant to be cutting down on my alcohol intake.
Might take some to Newark with me too.
We had the good fortune/luck to stay at South Cliff Farm CL, Lincoln, in the autumn of 2011. The site is adjacent to the County show ground and all of the hedges are blackthorn......which produce sloes.
Tested the resultant product again last night....just to see that it had not gone off, you understand
