Hi,

I'm sure the answer is on here somewhere but after spending quite along time looking I thought I would ask for advice that would fit my personal circumstance.

I'm after a solar panel (believe it or not) and what I want to know is what wattage would suit my requirements.

I just want it to keep my batteries topped up. Our motorhome is parked on the street some 300 yards from home so I can't connect to the mains, also, it might not move for a month at a time.

I have 2, 110amp batteries. I also have a Sargent EC325 control panel that I can connect into so I believe that means I don't need to buy a regulator. I am also assuming that this system also has a built in diode that stops power going backwards from the batteries to the panel. I am taking it that it does the same as most regulators.

There are, as I'm sure you know, loads of panels for sale ranging in outputs and without a bit of advice I just know I'll buy one that's just below what I need. Embarassed

Many thanks.

"The EC325PSU incorporates a built-in dual channel Solar Regulator that allows the direct connection
of a 20 to 100W solar panel without the need for additional components. The dual regulator charges
both the vehicle and leisure batteries simultaneously and connects to the PSU via a dedicated
connector on the base of the unit (see section 5.7 for details).
A connection harness is available from your dealer, the part number is 59065-07."

You can buy a lead from Sargent direct. the PSU will handle 100w max.

I would opt for an 80w panel, several on ebay around the £110 - £120 mark, £1o for the lead, Ali brackets £10, sikaflex ebay £8..
Job done... Just done my Autotrail so very similar.

Always keeps my leisure battery charged when parked up at home.. On the old van never plugged it in at home for 2 years once a panel was fitted.

There is a very good article on solar panels for motorhomes in this month's (February) edition of MMM magazine.

Totally agree with the other comments, getting a decent sized one is worth having, too small is a waste of time and money, 80w is sensible.
