Hi, anyone got experience of fitting a tow bar to a Sprinter van (pre 2007)?

We are looking at buying a Sprinter van conversion and would like the option to tow.

It looks as though it is a pretty straight forward mechanical job - I would probably go with a tidy looking swan neck rather than a simple ball as I prefer the look and do not want to be able to mount any sort of rack to the bar as that would prohibit access to the rear doors.

How about the electrics? Are there plug in kits available or is it a Scotchlock job (hate those!) Is the Sprinter Canbus etc. If it's a scotchlock job do I connect at back of exisitng lights?

Thanks for any help!

Hi
I thought you'd flogged your S820 and gone back to a caravan?

Paul.

I fitted a tow bar to a sprinter a couple of years ago easy to fit all holes drilled in the chassis you have to remove the towing eye for the electrics it was scotch locks wired behind the rear lights

Yes the 820 went and we do indded have a caravan. We have been looking for a smaller quality van conversion and have now found one. We need a towbar to pull the caravan to work twice a year.

......oh, and just to clarify we are NOT caravaners! We just happen to use one as a mobile bedrrom. Trouble was all we were doing with the 820 was using it as a bedroom and struggling to take it out so regretfully she had to go. Have to say the caravan makes a great living space, we have a 2.5m wide Hobby but other than that there is no excitement. We are however very excited about getting another motorhome!
