Ok it is not a cheap fix (£159) but have just been for a spin to test it!
The DAB reception is great and it tells you the name of the song you are listening to as well!
Interestingly the FM reception is also MUCH superior to the JVC one.
No holes or external aerials
Can sell the old one (nearly new).
Is a straight swap so no tricky wiring.
It comes with a digital aerial to stick on the windscreen included (very small neat and inconspicuous).
Disadvantage of DAB is that it only works in the UK - the UK seems to be unique in using that system..........
Reading through this suggests that many countries have chosen systems which are not compatable with UK DAB....

You're right, most of Europe is heading towards DAB+, which is not compatible with UK specific radios. DAB+ is backward compatible with UK DAB.
DAB is very sporadic in Europe, had to go to Warsaw to test a DAB+unit.
Gerry
It does do standard FM too! (actually swaps to fm if the DAB signal is too weak)
I have an in-motion satellite dish for getting my beloved radio 2 on the continent!
Another thing to watch out for, DAB radios tend to be very greedy indeed on batteries so do protect your starting battery - preferably with an anti flat device so it will kill the radio before the battery gets too low to start the engine.
Patrick
1 it does DAB and DAB+
2 drain is 0.6 amps on DAB reception with all four speakers on at sensible volume.
3 In a round trip to Manchester only about a mile of motorway with no reception and a just few squeeks mainly in hilly villages around macclefield.
Still very happy - and it tells me what song I am listening too - saves endless arguments and googling.

Sorry to go off topic, a question for "tulsehillboys". When you are travelling, can you listen to Radio 2 through your MH radio speakers. If so how did you set them up.
