Dear readers,

I have a complecated insurance question, perhaps one of you could help me.

I'm living in the Netherlands, and I'm planning to buy a motorhome in the UK. Drive it in Europe during the summer, transport it to New Zealand, and have a vacation over there, and sell the motorhome afterwards.

For this I need the following insurance:
-insurance for about 6 months in the EU. The motorhome will keep his UK licence plates, and I can give an postal address in the UK.
-insurance for transporting the motorhome on a big boat to New Zealand
-insurance for about 3 months in New Zealand.

Do some of you have any experience with this? Any help is really appreciated!!

No experience at all but:

Insuring her in the Uk should not be an issue. Try MHF insurance - its quite competitive.

Transport insurance, the shipping agent can help on this, well they did when we looked at shipping ours to the US.

As for NZ insurance I would try http://www.covi.co.nz/

...HUMM....complicated indeed !!...

I think your 1st problem will be that most UK Insurance companies will expect you to hold an English driving license......is this something you have ??

Last year we tried to sell our English registered RV to a French man, he wanted to retain the UK registration so tried to obtain English Insurance....and despite him having a postal address in England he was refused cover as he didn't have a Full English Driving License .

I have no knowledge of the other insurance requirements you will need...hope you can get this sorted.....

from Easter-September we are in Hemsby ( working in a campsite ) ...then we travel to Agadir, Morocco for the rest of the year in the sun.

We love to meet everyone...just PM us for our address !

Nothing to do with insurance, but have you looked closely at the rules and regulations for importing vehicles into NZ.

My brother did this some years ago, and had a lot of problems and expense. The decontamination process alone was a fortune. They are very very strict.

Thanks for the info. I'm in contact with a guy in New Zealand who is specialized in importing motorhomes from Europe... He promised me he would arrange everything (of course for a fee...)
