Hi we are off to sunny Spain in a week or two. I seem to remember a tread on here regarding marker boards for the rear of cycle/scooter carriers being needed there.

I’ve spent some time polishing my search skills but I’m afraid not found it.

Those of you who regularly go to Spain, are they necessary? Where can I get them? Anything else I should know?

Many thanks Dick

Yes you need a marker board on the back - you would be very conspicuous without one.
Friends of ours from teh UK were stopped and fined for not having one and were told by the Guardia that even if the rack was folded up with no bike on board, the folded rack would still need a sign.

I must admit if ours is folded up without the bikes I wouldnt worry about a sign. But with bikes on, I wouldnt go down the road without the marker sign.
We have a Fiamm cover which has a transparent pocket for the sign to slot in - dont know if they are all like that.

The law says that if the load ie bike rack protrudes more than 10% of the vehicle lenght then you need the board ie 7mtr van anything over 70cm needs a reflective board
(denisl I think the Guardia where just being supper cautious with your friends.)
The Aluminium board is the only one that is HOMOLGAMIZED ie Legal and officially designed to the correct spec.
They do sell the plastic ones here and I use one which has the reflectors in each corner never had a problem over the last 10 years here.
There is a thread on here about the reflectors not sure where but Fiamma make them.

And the diagonal lines must face the correct way, the lower end of the lines must point to the Off side of the vehicle, in other words one way round in UK and when you get off the ferry you must turn it
