Hello all. I have just joined MF.c as we have a new motorhome on order. It is a Knauss Ski ti 650MF. After sampling all the motorhomes at the 2011 NEC show, we kept the place open whilst we placed our deposit. It is due for delivery end March, so the excitement is building. We visited the recent show at Event City in Manchester, just to confirm that it is still the right van for us. It was then that we found out it has been chosen for Motorhome of the year 2012. That just confirms all our hard slog around the NEC.
Not the first van we have had in our lives. In the early 70's we hired a simple coach built Transit. We took the children off to Scotland, touring, for a week, to see whether we liked the idea.
Not being able to purchase a van in those days, I found a long wheelbase Bedford CF, just about to be sent to the scrapyard. I welded up the broken rear end, fitting the rear end with a U shape seating area which turned into a double bed when the table was lowered. The floors and wardrobe/cupboards were all T&G. To finish off, Rover leather seats were fitted, fridge and dedicated TV holder. Outside I made a roof rack and fitted to the vinyl roof I had made. Then the body was sprayed in green metalflake with 'Moon' discs fitted to the wheels. These were the early days of customising.
I think the van was too heavy after all the work, because it had great difficulty climbing hills.
The build was a lot more involved and funnier than I can write here. I kept it for about two years then decided that perhaps a car and caravan would probably be easier.
The next motorvan was purchased, new, in 2003. It was a disaster for many reasons, so that only lasted just over a year.
Hopefully we will find this new one alright and keep it for many years. Just a shame I got rid of all the gear we had in the last van.

Hi Jenny.
Thanks for your reply.
Yes, the slog payed off, hopefully.
There will be a shakedown weekend when it arrives, then we will go and visit the Midges in Scotland for a few weeks, providing the kids and olden's do not pester us.
Will hopefully get some photos to share.
