Hi,
we have sold the house and everthing else, waiting for the paper work to go through, we are trying to decide which motorhome to buy, we are 2 adults and 2 dogs, one large one medium. we have narrowed it down to 2, 2002 dethleff esprit or 2002 auto roller, both fiat ducato 2.8jtd engine, both 6 berth. the pros and cons for us are the 1. dethleff has a better reputation 2. the autoroller has more space inside, expecially in the shower/toilet area, and rear lounge/dog beds. 3. dethleff is shorter 6.1m compared to 6.8m, easier for parking etc.. if anybody has any comments i would gratefully appreciate them, both motorhomes are in good condition and coming with a 12month warranty.
thanks

I would say go for space especially if you are using it for extended trips. You don't very often find people saying that their motorhome is too big!!! Unless they are purposely downsizing for a specific reason.
The other thing to think of is storage space and the payload capacity of each.
Good Luck

hello sarah ,

would you accept a small piece of advice ??

here it is :

don`t think too small. When planning to be enroute
for longer periods of time with two dogs , a 6-6.5m Van is becoming too small soon.
I`d rather choose a vehicle which is a bit longer with adequate payload. just my opion

my regards
Jan

I would second that too, especially with 2 dogs as well, are you planning to fulltime in it?

Space, payload and layout are key.

Paul.

Why are you looking at 6 berth vehicles when there are only two of you???

Why pay for 4 bed spaces you dont need !!!

My views would be

1. Get the biggest you feel comfortable with.
2. Make sure you have plenty of lounging space IN ADDITION to the bed space. If the weather is c*** for a week you will need space to lounge/move around in. (Just imagine spending a whole week in JUST the lounge of your current home and you will get the idea!)
3. Make sure it has a HUGE payload, I would be looking for 500Kg minimum just think of all the "stuff" you will take with you, (a couple of electric bikes would also be a good idea)
4. Make sure the base vehicle is reliable without known faults (clutch judder???) and it is easy to work on (some A class vans are a nightmare to work on, so any repairs will be costly.
5. Consider very seriously the benefits of Gaslow, Solar panels, two LARGE leisure batteries, SOG for the toilet, LED lighting
6. A full cooker (as in it has an oven) is essential
7. If you are going somewhere (very) chilly (like Scandawegia) be sure the water tanks are well insulated or inside the vehicle.
8. Be sure there is enough storage space for the amount of clothes you will need (shoes coats and boots take up a lot of space)

The above list is not exhaustive and is made on the assumption you will be looking to full time in it.

I have a 7.3m MH with a fixed rear bed and regularly go away for a month at a time. There are just the two of us and I would not consider a MH any smaller. I would find full timing in my current vehicle "taxing" due to the payload and storage limitations (and it has 500Kg payload!!)
