The standard horn on my 2002 2.8JTD Ducato Hobby is pathetic and I would like to fit a louder one (much needed in Spain and Portugal!)

Any suggestions?

David

I fitted twin horns - see item 160036 on this page on our previous van - 2003 Ducato-based. Needs about an hour max to wire in (in my case via a separate long arm toggle switch), keeping the original horn for MOT purposes.

They frightened the life out of a lane-drifter on the M1 and "corrected" him instantly! Very Happy

Colin

Hello David,

I Know what you mean especially when negotiating tight hair pin bends that you cannot see around.

I fitted an Stebel Nautilus Twin Air Horn to my Ducato and it is much louder than the original.
You can source one on Ebay for less than £30 complete with a relay switch.
You'll need to run a 20amp fused wire direct from your battery to the relay and full instructions are included with the horn. The new one will simply replace the old horn which you can keep to refit if you decide to sell your current m'home.

I hope this helps,

Bob

Sorry, but i do hate those that do a gentle pip as they leave, it always seems to be late in the day as well.
As to air horns, they are an addon that I approve of, I used to have colonel bogey on the taxi, the first 2 notes sounded like two tones. Laughing Laughing :lol:that shifted them.

I vote for Stebel Nautilus too. Unlike most air-horns there is next to no delay between hitting the tit and the resultant noise - due to the neat design, I think.
I have one on the boat, before I use it I need to warn anyone on deck in case of involuntary dives overboard .... Laughing

I too would like a louder one.

But hey guys, can we leave out the air horn suggestions please?

They are for 'hairy-ar*ed' truckers aren't they? - not an old gentleman(?) like me.

I just what something loud enough to be effective on that blind corner, not something to scare every cat within a km.

Something like this is all you need

http://www.ebay.co.uk/sch/i.html?_nkw=dual+tone+car+horns&_sacat=0&_dmd=2&_odkw=car+horns&_osacat=0&_trksid=p3286.c0.m270.l1313

I've fitted them to several cars that have had pathetic "Meep Meep" horns.

Just make sure they are fitted somewhere that is well shielded from the full blast of the elements.

Stanner

Looked at your link and all on there seem to be 'Air' or two-tone.

Is there not a simple, but louder horn which I could fit in the same place as the existing, without changing wiring/position etc.?

Am I expecting there to be too much of a simple answer?

Geoff
