The Government intends to reform the act with the result that the period that spent convictions have to be declared is to be reduced.
Under the plans, a fine would be spent one year after being handed down; a jail term of up to six months would be spent two years after the end of the sentence; a jail term between six and 30 months would be spent four years after the end of the sentence; and one of between 30 months and four years would be spent seven years after the end of the sentence. Only a jail term of more than four years would never be spent.

I wonder how much fuss the motor insurance companies will make about loosing all that potential income from speeding fines which currently have to be declared for 5 years.
It will also make the attendance at Driver Awareness Courses a less attractive alternative to a FPN, although the Government will mitigate that by increasing the FP from £60 to £100.

Shouldn't bother the insurance bandits one jot. They can all get together and just increase premiums to whatever they please.

Still it might allow ex-cons to get a job easier.

John, Yes you would think so but my 18 year old Daughter renewed her insurance yesterday and the companies were falling over themselves to get her business. Perhaps the recession and less 2nd cars etc is beginnning to effect them.
Funnily enough there was a large reduction in premium is when I and her Mum were added as named drivers.
