I have a connumdrum - I have the advantage of being able to park my outfit outside the back door. The other morning when i went into the kitchen first thing i heard a beeping, investigating i found the CO'2 monitor in the van had activated. I run habitation on Autogas. All gas taps into the van were closed and supply isolated. I tested the monitor, changed the battery and set it up in the van alongside the house CO'2 monitor. After a short while bot5h activated in alaem mode.
I normally keep Main Power on and run a 60w electric heater ( a greenhouse heater) as aa precaution against damp. 'thinking' that this may be the cause i switched off mains removed heater and rest the monitor - All OK.
Yesterday i switched main supply on again, checked to ensure charger was on but all other power outlets off. This morning - YES the CO'2 monitor had activated in the alarm mode. I'm thinking could the batteries be the problem.
Any views as to cause of the problem would be appreciated.

First thought - is it likely that the emissions from your house central heating could be entering the van??

It doesn't take much CO or CO2 to trigger an alarm.

It sounds to me as if you have taken a very logical and systematic approach to eliminating the variables from inside the van - so it has to be something entering from outside. Question

As Sherlock Holmes said, "Eliminate all other factors, and the one which remains must be the truth."

Good hunting.

The CO alarm in my van triggered three years ago whilst it was hooked up on the drive. The cause was a failing battery. A cell in one of the leisure batteries had failed and was gassing. The van was full of Hydrogen Sulphide and goodness knows what other hydrogen derivatives.
When your van has been hooked up for a while - assuming the batteries need a bit of re-charging and the charger is not just idling - feel the tops and sides (if possible) of the leisure batteries to see if they are noticeably warm. If so, one is probably on the way out.

Cold weather. Alkaline batteries don't work below zero. Something I found out on top of Ingleborough Hill in Yorkshire at 16.00 hrs on a February afternoon.
