Just to let people know.........

We are full timing and insured with MHF insurance....We decided to look into buying a car and towing it on a trailer...not a problem we thought..so a quick call to MHF insurance only to be told Sorry don't insure cars!!!

As we are full timing we need the car to be covered in the same way and the only other company is Comfort who will insure us but at a price!! £700 for a Citroen C1 - almost as much as it is to insure the motorhome itself!!

700 quid to insure your MH Surprised Surprised Surprised Surprised

Do you own one of those "Darth Vader" million dollar motorhomes, live in the middle of a roundabout in an inner city, are aged under 21 with 10 previous convictions for stealing cars??? Thats a seriously horrendous premium, I pay just under 200 !! (but I am old with umpty years worth of NCB)

Dont forget that you can shop around for the car insurance and when its on a trailer (NOT an A frame) it will (should?) be covered by your MH insurance anyway provided you have advise them you will be towing a trailer!!

I would suggest you start by having a chat with a broker.

At that sort of premium its got to worth thinking in terms of hiring a car as and when you need/want one.

I may be wrong here but I thought mhf insurance was run by Aviva.
Aviva certainly insure cars vans and motorhomes.
They appear to be in line to be taken over by a Chinese insurer.

£220 for my C1 but it's not insured when on the trailer, risk I'm prepared to take, the MHF policy will insure 3rd party due to the trailer it's on but thats it.
Tesco insure the C1 by the way.

I'm assuming that you may have no NCD on the C1?

Unfortunately you'll always pay a fair bit for a policy that'll cover the car fully comp on a trailer...few insurers will cover that. Comfort will cover, as will Peart. I think I read NFU will as well. Ironically getting cover while on an a-frame is a bit easier than when on a trailer.

I sympathise...cost me £600 for my Fiat 500 last year, approx £500 this year (now a-framed rather than on trailer). I considered it essential to have fully comp & wouldn't compromise by going 3rd party while being towed.

Hi All,

The problem is we are full timing and this is what has pushed up the cost.

The post was to point out that MHF insurance who insure full timers do not insure cars, which may be a problem for full timers if they intend to tow.

Sorry for any confusion
