In May we are going to Auschwitz and intend crossing the border from Germany into Poland. However a friend has heard that there is a security/safety problem in this area and suggest going through the Czech Republic. Has anyone heard of this 'problem' Confused and any advice would be appreciated.

Hi

I used the Germany route to Poland many times with the coaches and no problems at all other than the occasional delay.

There was often people "loitering" near the border selling fruit, leather, etc etc but I never saw any trouble.

Only place I have had trouble with robbers is Rome. A cheeky ******* opened the emrgency exit, reached in and swiped a bag. Unfortunately for him, it was full of rubbish! After that incident I asked people sat near the centre door and rear emergency exit to sit elsewhere if there were other seats, or be extra vigilant and have a large umbrella to hand!

As for Aushwitz, I have been there numerous times but only been in the "grounds" once. I was 24 at the time and I can see it (and feel it) as though it was yesterday.

A very moving experience. I will say no more

As Rapide 561, I have been to Auschwitz, Auschwitz/Birkenau one of the never to be forgotten moments in my life.
All Polish children from 15 onwards have to visit as part of their school curriculam. We entered via Ch Rep. Slov. several years ago.
