We're off to southern Spain ( Barcelona, Granada, Seville) for a month from early April. We'll be going fairly quickly through France from Dunkirk through Orleans, Millau and Perpignan, hoping to stay at aires or Passion sites. Once in Spain we'll probably mostly do organised sites with hook ups.

We are unsure what to expect with the weather and so how to organise what gas we take with us. Would you expect us to need heating once away from northern France ? Will it -given "normal" conditions, which seem not to exist any longer- be warm enough to sit outside in the day and BBQ in the evenings ?

We are hopeless at estimating gas usage but hope to get by with 2 full 6kg propane bottles and not have to tangle with the Spanish gas system.

Hi Grizzly. Once you are south of Barcelona I wouldn't worry too much about it being cold from early April. You can expect 16C or better. Although there are the occasional cold snaps with rain. The further south the better. We have also had thunder storms in April too. Crying or Very sad May is much better. Wink

If you are careful you should have enough gas but having said that , we spent April near Madrid and it was boiling hot nost of the time but for a couple of days we had persistant sleet. If you are using sites buy a small fan heater say 1000 watts. Its amazing the gas you will save. You will be there at Easter. The sites all get very busy and very very noisy. Its magic to us but to others its an excuse to go back to England. The sites are also top price at Easter. Happy sunbathing

Hi Grizzly,

Don't know about April, but we just got back from a 5 week tour which took in France, Spain and Morocco. We started mid January. It was mostly cold, with temperatures down to -10°C at night in the High Atlas in Morocco. We relied mostly on gas heating and got 14 days per 13kg Calor propane (2.5 x 13kg total over 5 weeks).

If you have a Truma boiler they publish gas consumption per kWh figures. Check out:

http://www.truma.com/truma05/en/downloads/3551/Techn_Daten_CuR_GB.pdf

Using this information it is not difficult to estimate usage.

Thank you very much everyone. I think we are going to take the two 6kg bottles, a small single burner electric hotplate and lots of blankets. We have an electric element built into the Truma gas fire.

If we run low on gas then we'll use more blankets !

I'm sure we'll come back with nearly as much gas as we went with -we always seem to do. That said, we've never been this early in the year.

Why oh why can't someone like Calor sell the same product all over Europe ? I can't believe they would lose on it. Confused
