I would like to go to New Zealand in the not to distant future I would hire a Motorhome for about 6 weeks
What would be the best time of year to go what would be the best camper to hire and any useful information Thanks

We were recommended to go Feb/Mar by friends who live there - this was what we did both times and it worked well.

As to what camper to hire, that depends on what your requirements are........... If you are going to live in it for 6 weeks get one that is big enough to give you room to move.

Hi Clipper,

We've lived here for 26 years and I agree with kiperkid - Feb/Mar is the best time. The weather is more settled and the schools have gone back so things are a little quieter.

The big rental companies are Maui, Britz, Apollo, Horizon, Kea and several others. A Google search will soon find them for you.

Wife and I have been on the North Island for the last 5 weeks staying with my daughter and family, last week the whole family had a week at Hastings/Napier on Hawkes Bay, temperature all week circa 26C.
We found m/h hire too expensive so if we tour we borrow one of the daughters cars and use backpacker hostels.
Have just been looking at a 6 berth 2 year old ex Kea rental m/h with 80,000 Kms on the clock and absolutely immaculate, price 109,000NZ$ about 42,500 pounds, a bit steep.
