Hi all

Well we are still on the lookout for our first MH. We have had some great advice so far. The general concensus has been that no matter what you get it will always be a compromise. Well after looking at a lot of brochures we came across a brochure for a CI Mizar GTL and it seemed to tick all the right boxes. 6 berth. The fixed rear bunks. Large dinnette with seamless transition to the cab(the driver and passenger seats swivel direct onto the dinnette table). The large overcab bed with plenty of windows up there. Unfortunately they are very new as in new for 2004 and trying to find a 2nd hand one seems to be like the proverbial rocking horse waste deposit. Rolling Eyes So I would like to ask the community 3 things.
1. Does anyone have any experience of ths model, good or bad, I would appreciate all feedback.
2. Anyone know of any going 2nd hand RHD or LHD we have no preference.
3. Can anyone suggest an alternate model with similar specs and layout.

Cheers again for all the help

Hi Mary + Stewart,

We had a C I Mizar, only sold it because we needed to downsize for a while.

There were four of us, might as well call us all adults as our children were teenagers at the time and were the same size as us.

We found the space inside the Mizar a real pleasure, remember this motor home is still just 7 metres long, the lounge with the swivel seats more than accommodated us all.

The over cab bed is one of the largest in this class, plenty of windows and lights up there, no feeling of claustrophobia.

The bunk beds are a very good size, I slept there once just to try them for size (I’m 5ft 10ins) I found I had enough room to stretch out comfortably, my children never complained using them.

The kitchen has all you need including an extractor, plenty of space for food etc.

The bathroom is spacious with the shower a good size.

Lots of storage, fold the rear bunks and we carried two bikes plus all the wet stuff, waste water container etc, chairs, and lots more.

There is plenty of room on the side pull out storage, under the seats, large cupboards, overall the storage was more than we needed for the four of us.

Some say the beds you make up in the lounge can be fiddly, we never needed to so I can’t comment.

Our van was new, never gave us any trouble and the 2.8 engine coped well, the motor home handled very well, I did add air-ride but it was not really needed.

Some say the fittings etc on C I can be a little suspect, on ours (remember they use the same fittings from the top of the range vans) they were fine.

The seat/cushion material was a little thin and faded very quickly, the seat's themselves in the back were comfortable, according to my two kids.

I had problems with all the locker door hinges, they were changed but never really right, just had to keep an eye on them and make sure they were lubricated frequently.

There are issues about getting the niggles sorted out C I can be a very slow when parts are required, although they were working towards sorting that out, bearing in mind you are looking second hand, all the problems should be sorted out.

Would I but another, maybe, but I seldom buy the same model twice.

Any more questions just ask, I know there are others here that have had a less successful C I ownership, so hopefully you’ll have more first hand experience.

MHS...Rob Very Happy

Thanks for the great review there Rob

I didnt realise CI had questionable build quality...Its certainly one to look out for. I have seen these campers on mobile.de new for @ €42k which I thought was brilliant value.

Can you tell me if they are twin floored? I understand that this is desireable not only for the winterisation but also for added storage space.

I have also seen a Dethleffs A5880 HG which also had the twin bunk beds. The Dethleffs models certainly seem to have excellent build quality but it wouldnt have all the features we are looking for....compromise springs to mind again. Rolling Eyes

Well thanks again for your help.

Hi Mary + Stewart,

I wouldn't worry yourself about the build quality, I did say "some say" I found the interior fittings to be excellent.

No double floor but as I stated storage is not a problem, more than 4 people could use to be honest, as for winterising, they state it is suitable for use in winter as the fresh water tank is situated inside.

The only reservation I had about that was the waste water tank was located outside under the rear, although if the temp was that low I would simply fix the drain pipe to the tank and place that in a waste container with the drain open, that way you should have no problem.

You say 42,000 euros, they were selling in this country for £36,000 at Davans (sorry, unable to give a link as their site seems to be down) last autumn, my recommendation would be to check with C I dealers first.

Dethleffs, I have no knowledge of although someone here will sure to be of assistance.

Anything else you need to know just ask. Very Happy

Mary and Stewart, just a note on RHD Vs LHD in Irish market, we were advised by virtually all the dealers we visited that while they had taken many left hookers as trade-ins on RHD, they had never been asked to take a RHD as a trade on a lefty. Residual value on RHD appears to be higher and easier to shift.

Hope you find a good un

HI,
I've had a Mizar GTL for 6 months now (04 model) and have been very pleased, apart from an electrical fault in the engine while in France, but that's fixed and everything is great.

Has anybody found the table a bit small? If so have you managed to do anything about it. I was thinking about trying to make a flap to attach to it.
If you look in the brochure, it shows a table with an extra flap, but when I phoned the supplier and asked about the table with the flap, they said that that was just a table they put in for the photo and it does not come with the van.
