Razz Hello we are new to motorhoming although we did have a caravan. My question is do we need any special type of refill water pipe. I still have the refill pipe from my caravan but this is only about 2ft long and I thought I would need a longer pipe to reach from van to water tap. All help gratefully accepted.

Hi, Banjobob. Great name! Welcome to the forum.

I would suggest a blue, food-grade hose, lay-flat on a reel. Most campsite shops will have them. 25metres would be good.

Gerald

Hello banjobob59, Welcome to the site. You will read differing opinions on here, but as far as I am concerned food grade quality hose is the way to go. You can either buy ordinary food grade hose usually coloured blue or a roll of hose that rolls flat obviously at greater expense. I have both but have never found a need to use the longer flat hose. I have three lengths of hose with brass connections that I manage with so far.
You will also learn that some people use bottled water for drinking etc and some are quite happy to use the water straight from the tank. In four years I have used the water straight from the tank both at home and abroad with no adverse effects. Have recently fitted a purifier but for different reasons.
Welcome to the motorhoming fraternity enjoy the experience and any questions ask away, there is usually someone has the answer you need.
Ian

Hi "bob...." I put "hosepipe" in the search facility and got 34 responses-I still don't know how to include a link in a message-someone on here will direct you-otherwise just press "search" along top of screen- a useful facility

HI
I use a coil type hose with a attachment [ photo] saves getting wet Wink also get yourself a set off tap fittings ie
hose lock snap on and various screw thread adapters and a push on clip type because not all sites have the same tap fittings. Wink
you know that from your caravan days Laughing

Hi,
We too are new to motorhoming after 20+ years of caravanning.
We prefer to fill up at home and top up as we go along using 2 x 10 litre watering cans with screw on spouts ( from B&Q ) which we keep for this purpose only and store neatly behind the cab seats.
Perhaps we are clinging to our old caravan ways but it suits us.
We have hoses and connectors but so far we have found that it isn't always practical to drive to or run a hose to the tap.
I still flush with embarrassment as I remember our first trip as a queue of tuggers, drumming their fingers on their aquarolls , began to form behind me as I struggled to fill an 80 litre tank with a slow trickling tap !
I'm sure you will find the best way for you , have fun !

If you are some way from a water point and dont want to or cant easily move the vehicle which i seem frequestly to be, I also have a 5 gallon container and small submersable pump (about £12 from caravan shops) which I can then fill up the motor home tank. This avoids the usual caper with funnels and lifting an awkward weight of water in to the tank spilling it every where. I plug the pump in to the vehicle 12V to operate it.

The other issue is of course is empting the waste tank for which I also have a water hog and also a long flat hose to run to a waste drain. I have a wet locker at the rear of there MH to store this clobber, most fo the time you dont need it but when you do, its really handy.
