Hi yet another question from me. We have been looking now for what seems likes ages for our first Motorhome and have currently short listed some M/Hs which we like.
The first is a new 2006 model Chausson Welcome 9, 2.3. We have been offed this for £27k, Are they any good and is this a good price?
OR
do we wait and get a 2007 model Chasson for simular money, there has been no confirmed prices on the 2007 Chassons yet, unless someone has got them?
OR
Do we keep looking and try and get a nice second hand Hymer or simular quality M/H?
And one other quick question, Is it worth us going to the NEC next week? What will be there, we went to York and did not think much of it.
Thanks for everyones help so far, helping us find our perfect M/H
Now thats all my free posts used up, So I think I am going to part with £10 for my next round of questions and advise, It should be money well spent.
On the Chausson - they're very popular with the French, fairly obviously, but very rare over here. AFAIK, I would guess they don't make a RHD version - would that be OK if I'm correct in that assumption?
Don't know about prices - you'll have to search around. I would expect prices for 2006 models to be very keen just now, as dealers want to shift old stock before the new ones arrive.
This will be my first year of motorhoming, and haven't been to the NEC for a motorhome show in years. I did read somewhere that dealers and manufacturers aren't willing to put new vans on display at a late season outdoor event, preferring to wait for an indoor event like the NEC. I'm going, and I know a lot of others are from here. If you're actively looking, I would say it's worth going.

On way to work now so will give more details later.
We own a Chausson Allegro 83 06 model and my cousin has a Welcome 06 model with bunks across the back.
We both love our van but Dealer gets problems with communication with them.
We have now done 4800 miles since April and its a brilliant ride and lovely van.
Ask any question you want and I will contact my cousin on his too. As a point of interest my cousin allows his to be rent out which is something I would never do so you could try before you buy there.
Hi Richy 777.
Firstly, I would say if you are still wondering which motorhome to go for, then the NEC is a must. This October thing is quite new I think, but I've been to the shows at NEC in February and there really is a huge selection to at least look around.
As to the Chausson brand itself, as has been said very popular in France.
I have a Chausson Welcome 5, which is a 2002 model. Rear lounge, centre WC/washroom and separate shower room opposite, front kitchen with sink/3 burner hob (no oven), 3 way Electrolux fridge, and 4 seater dinette with 2 front facing seat belts. Truma blown air heating /hot water (with the infamous dump valve!), and a large garage type locker under the rear lounge. Spacious Luton double bed on slats with blown air heating.
It is LHD, and Continental spec, whcih I needed. It had been bought new in France, then imported and registered in the UK. I have re-exported and will be registering in Italy. I traded in a Bessacarr E645 which was superlative for just the 2 of us, but not suitable re sleeping space/seat belts for grandchildren or other relatives. For the trade-in swap I made I reckon I got a bargain, because of course the dealer (Marquis) was having difficulty moving a LHD Continental spec. motorhome.
This deal was in fact made at NEC last Feb. 2006.
In my view/experience of it so far, the Chausson certainly provides value for money. The Fiat 2.8 JTD on which mine is based was not as beefy as the Bessacarr 2.8 i.d.TD but have had it chipped and is now fine.
The Chausson has made a one way trip UK - Italy, a round trip Italy - UK - Spain - Italy, and several weekend trips within Italy with no problem, once we got used to the slightly less roomy layout. Will be doing Italy - France - Andalucia - Italy in November.
HTH.
saluti,

Purchased a second hand Chausson Welcome 55 (2004 model) LHD in France and imported to Jersey . based on 2.2litre Citroen Jumper .
Purchased with 18,000km on clock and have added another 4000km since then with no problems. Ideal for just the two of us ,but would possibly have gone for the Flash08 to give us a bit more space , however location and ferry costs mean overall length was an issue . 2. 2 litre pulls along nicely
Standard of interior is spot on . Some minor problems with the Truma bolier , but Truma fixed under warranty
Would definatly look to purchase another Chausson when the time comes
This is the web address for the new Chausson and I believe they will be at the NEC to show them.
The welcome 9 has only half a dinette????? Is that what you wanted? We have a full dinette and settee opposite. It gives extra lounging area.
Chausson really pack a lot in a good van for less money and they don't really cut corners either. We didn't have a radio with ours even though it was top of the range and no aerial either. The other things we added were an awning and bike rack but air conditioning was in ours already. We have the Renault Master 3litre base which is brilliant. Our other van was a 2.3jtd fiat Bessacarr 435 and the fiat drove well but the Renault is quieter.
The problems we have had with ours have been paperwork rather than vehicle. The weight plate on the vehicle didn't tally with the DVLA logbook so 6 months later, Chausson have responded and will send a new one to my dealer but as with all things French it still hasn't arrived.
The warranty with Renault was 6months older than the date of reg in April and I have kept on at Renault and finally sorted that out.
The three ring cramer hob really only suites 2 saucepans as the furthest corner has melted the rubber stopper as it is too near the burner. My dealer is sorting this out too but Chausson have so many different departments that they keep getting things sent back by e-mail saying "wrong dept". As the dealer said trying to communicate in broken French doesn't help either.
The vehicle is really well insulated and well made. Loads of cupboard space and a lovely L shaped kitchen. The toilet at the side of the fixed bed can be a bit tight but the shower is brilliant. The seats are comfy and that is one of the reasons that we went for this as the Burstner, McLouis and Dethleffs were really uncomfortable seats and would have driven me mad sitting on them.
The heater is gas only so you cannot plug in when on electric so you have to double check what heater you have as there are different types in each model. We have heating in the back of the van when driving too and that is brilliant.
We wanted a lowline with fixed bed and settee and dinette with rear seatbelts and a more powerful engine and the price of the Chausson and what was included in the price was what sold it to us together with the fact that it was our local dealer selling it.
We are happy with the van and have already been to France in it. We plan to keep the van for 8-10yrs so we made sure it was a good one.
Contact me if you need more info.
The other thing to note is that new 2006 models will be greatly reduced as dealers will be wanting to shift them in order to get the new models in so shop around but don't travel too far for a dealer as ours is 70 mile away and that is too far sometimes. If it was 200mile away it would be a nightmare.
Go to the NEC. yOU HAVE NOTHING TO LOSE AS THAT IS WHAT WE DID IN fEBRUARY and we took our time looking around and testing seats, opening doors, lying on beds, sitting on loos opening doors etc and then asking what deal each dealer would give us..that was the eye opener. We were offered £18000-£27,000 for our other van as part ex so look carefully. If you have nothing to sell then you can really expect a lot knocked off a price and /or loads of extras added on. Good luck
Chris
Thanks, and we are getting it from Barrons of Darlington, bit of a hike from Norwich .... had to take the caravan we traded in up there on Saturday just gone and then I'm back up there next Monday hopefully to bring it home.
