Having looked at 1001 van's I decided to stop looking at what was pretty and think in pratical terms. Hence the Hymer range, fully winterized, good price, etc. I have been looking at Hymerdirect site. Has anyone there bought from there, and what is the after sales service like.? The other dealership I have considered is Oak Tree. Has anyone out there with a Hymer got any advice as what to look for when buying? As these van's are imports does this cause problem's geting spares, or with MOT requirement's. As I will be full timing, with a lot of wildcamping I have to be sure of what I buy. Thank's everyone. Pauline
Still confused but the fog is lifting, thank's to this site.
With Hymerdirect you are going to Peter Hambilton. He is absolutely the top Hymer bloke in this country. People visit him from all over the place. STRONGLY recommended
By Hymerdirect, I take it you mean Peter Hambiltons at Preston. They are well respected in the "Hymer World". Whilst, I have not bought a vehicle from them, they have carried out a number of repairs for me I found them very efficient and fair. Peter will also usually take the time to answer queries/problems over the phone.
Deepcar, are another company that seem to be well liked. www.dmiuk.com. Based near Sheffield. They might also take vehicles in part exchange, which I believe Hambiltons don't.
As with any vehicle condition is all important, both the habitation side as well as the base vehicle. As far as spares is concerned, I have a 1993 B544, and I have not had any problems obtaining spares. Remember that not everything is made by hymer. Fridge - Electrolux, or dometic as it is now called. Boilers are usually truma, heater etc. These are common to many motorhomes/caravans. Usually pretty widely available at dealers.
I don't think you would have much problems dealing with either of the above companies.
Thank's Ian. I e/mailed both for more information. Hymerdirect replied within the hour. I have mailed Oak Tree twice within the past 2 weaks but still haven't received an answer. That say's it all really doesn't it. Rick at Hymer even said he would pick me up from station if I wanted to view some van's. Cant ask for more than that really. Thank's again. Pauline

we visited Oak Tree 6 months ago, asked them to look out for motorhome for us after giving them the spec. Absolutely nothing since then, amazing. I suspect the level of service once we have bought would be similar. Good luck with your search
Peter Hambildon is the best hymer repair centre for bodywork and refits in the UK. He used to be a DMIUK at Deepcar. I can recommend them both having bought two hymers from DMIUK and had a range of excellent work done by Peter.
and Deepcar at Sheffield, have good reputations. I don't know about the guys at Chingford. But wouldn't Sheffield be nearer to Kettering? Go have a look and see what you think.
