As I actually can't sleep because I have not got a motorhome yet, I just went for a perambulate around the 'Autosleepers owners' site. Wotta let down. There I was, expecting all this expertise and advice and guess what? - zilch! Full of rules - you can't join until you've got one (very b"**!y helpful) and there are more policies and conditions than that other lot with the aprons. Sort of: come back when you've bought a new one, or when you've already painted your old one the wrong colour!! Seriously, there's no sign of the sort of help that's on here!! Does anyone belong to it? Am I just being twitchy and is it really wonderful? - Helena. PS That blinking TOYOTA in classifieds is keeping me awake too - think I must be a secret classic type!
I don't know much about Autosleepers other than it appears a popular make in this country, not sure about other countries. In fact I am not sure whether any British ones are sold in quantity to other European countries which could mean they know something we don't.
I think this site is unique not only to motorhomes but I have rarely seen a site where everyone is so friendly, helpful above and beyond the call of duty and you can say virutually anthing without being flamed. And I would safely guess that anything you wanted to know about Autosleepers will be found on here in abundance once you pop the questions.
Hello vardy and welcome. Don't know much about autosleepers myself, but I would just say join this site, and you don't really need to worry about other owners clubs and so on.
In reply to pusser - I buy Italian and French motorhome magazines, and have yet to see a British converter advertising - but they couldn't could they, because they don't build any LHD's without ovens! - apart from build quality considerations.
saluti,
eddied

the ASOC web site is for members of the club and potential members and is hosted by a member under his own steam at his costs to keep members informed.
If you were a member you would know much info is available !!!
All clubs have rules/codes of practice Most owners clubs are their for owners of one make..
If you want general information, hints and tips then you come on a site like mhf where there is a much wider spread of knowledge, and for that you pay (join) There are a lot of AS owners on here in this "club" who will help you

Having been both a member and secretary of owners clubs (one make) I would suggest as you may expect they are rather Biased.
Few people will openly admit that thier latest purchase be it car bike or even van is a load of rubbish. ( They feel silly).
It is true that you see few British vans on foreign plates. You do see thousands of continental vans and lots of them over here. In my opinion that is probably because the majority of them are cheap and cheerfull imports.
We are on our second Autosleeper and we have had no major problems so far, our current van being 5 yrs old.
Thank you so much everyone. Will have another go at Autosleepers Club as and when I get my hand in my pocket and it turns out to be that make. What prompted me to go onto their site, although a member on here was the fact that their secretaries old van is up for sale. But you can't join ( it says ) until you own a MH. And as everyone knows, I'm still just hatched! Will ask away on here, as I won't even have a car by next week. PS - O heck, my 5 yr insurance statement has come today, after work lease finished. The only firm who will insure me will be A. L. Capone! ( Been working on big estates in Sheffy and most of it is vandalism ) Will ins need to see it, or take into account that I'm all safe at home now? - Helena.

Helena,
When you join the ASOC do they come and inspect your van how will they know whether you have a van or not

Steve
I'm tempted to move this into the "Jokes & Trivia" forum.
Of course there are the "cheap & cheerful" imports, and why not? Not everyone can justify the £60,000 for a good quality jobbie, and how many complaints do you see on this forum about the quality of cheap imports?. There are also plenty of "better end" European imports that will wipe the floor with most of the UK products, usually for considerably less cash.
Not a comment on Autosleepers per sae, but take a head count of the number of fault reports on this forum concerning UK produced M/Hs and then do the same for imported M/Hs. I'm tempted to set up a poll.
You've obviously been more fortunate than most in your purchases so far Steve.
