Thinking of buying our first MH today at NEC, I know this is short notice , but how long will it be on average before we could hopefully have it on our drive.

They may seem a silly one but how do you go about buying from there and ending up with one from somewhere near to you. The main dealer for the one we want is down the road. But the special offer we have seen is in Hastings. Can we go to main dealer , who is at the show, and ask for same deal as others are offering. We are after a new one , for cash with no px, so should be in a good position for a bit of negotiating don't you think?

While I am here we also need to look at insurance companies, no doubt there has been many a thread on this, but just wondered if there was any thing new on the market. We are both under 50 and it will be insured in my name as I have 60% no claims.

On the insurance side, if you become a member you can get siginificant discounts which immediately offsets the cost of membership. Yes, a cash deal will always provoke the best deal possible. Delivery time is how long is a piece of string. It could be months and very often delivery dates are estimates rather than definate. So be prepared not to get excited until you know they actually have the m\home and are preparing it for your collection.

And a bit of advice which is far too late is get a second hand one to try out motorhoming because that way you will soon appreciate what it is you really need for your particular requirements, then order the new one, and while you are waiting you can still gad about the world enjoying motorhome life.

But welcome indeed to MHF. The one stop shop for absolutely everything you need from equipment to advice.

Welcome to this site Mandy ( and Andy) At least you'll get a quick reply to all your queries here.

Are you absolutely certain you want to buy today ? Do you know exactly which model you want and all the specs ? Have you thought of what you can negotiate by way of "extras" in the deal ? Have you looked at all the different layouts ?

Several makers are about to bring out new models and, unless you are absolutely certain you want bang up to date, it is a good time to negotiate a 2006 model. This usually means you can collect within the month rather than waiting for several months. This is what we did and we are delighted with ours - ready within the week and brand new.

Just a thought. Whatever you decide - have a good day !

Hi Mandy and Andy

I e mailed every dealer within a 100 mile radius stating what I required, and asked them to give me a price.

You can always quote the best price to another dealer and see if they will match it.

At this time of year, if you buy a 2006 model, you could have the van within a short time.

If you want a 2007 model, then I suspect a waiting period would apply.

Buy in haste repent at leisure….

Personally I would not touch a 2006 model – new chassis from all manufacturers are in a different league from old models – fiat for instance is 97% new

Order soon and you should have early next year.

It would be one thing if they were offering old stock (because that is what it is new chassis have been available since this summer) at fantastic reductions but they don’t…..

Save yourself 10k and order from Germany - and get proper treatment!

Well, been, gone and done it as they say. Just to answer a few points raised, I found a great deal from the place in Hastings, rang them and checked they had the MH still there yesterday and still for sale under same terms. Printed off the deal and all the extras that came with it.

Went to CI stand and cornered the most timid looking salesman there, I am 5' 9" , more than amply endowed and quite a formidable sight when I want to be. I am also Yorkshire call a "spade a spade" and dont patronise me sort of person too. I told him what we wanted and what we could find elsewhere and could he match it, he went off with everything written down and came back and said NO!! ," was I sure they had the model and did I have the phone number",, "ohh yes here you are" I said, I think he thought I was pulling a fast one. Off he went again, came back with senior salesman, anyway, they couldnt get the 2006 model we wanted and the people in Hastings where not parting with it. So we have ended up with a 2007 Roller Team 600G , Ford base, with all the extras we asked for on the other, plus, tax for year, full tank, 4.5mtr Fiamma Awning [MHF Link], ariel, upgrade on the leisure battery to a 110, and an awning light.
Did I do ok ?, price on dash for Show only was £31.995 and we got it all for £30,000 , which we where happy with as that was the price of the special deal 2006 one.

It may kill me waiting till March but as alot of you have said it will be worth the wait, it did feel alot more robust than the origional CI, and there where definate plusses to it, the only negative was the kitchen area have less serving space, but the gains far outweighed the losses.

Will definately check out your insurance too , before we do anything.

Thanks for all the replies, I cant believe I was on here at 7am and there have been 141 threads since then, can't wait to gain loads more tips before our first trip out.

Sounds to me that you got a good deal there.

Lots to do before March collecting together all the things to fill it ! Don't go mad and go to specialist shops - often supermarkets and pound stores sell things that are just as good and considerably cheaper.

One very good piece of advice we had was to keep a separate set of things for the van -right down to the smallest item. That way getting off for an unexpected quick trip is not a chore and you don't get to bedtime in the middle of no-where and discover you have no pillows or toothpaste or bottle opener.

You can enjoy planning your trips away too !
