hi
i am looking for a book which is geared towards campsites that take motorhomes. hopefully excluding the campsites that dont allow them.
i only do weekend trips due to work.
my camper is only 17 ft long and 6 ft wide so is no bigger than a caravan.
what book would be best averall.
i am going to join the caravan and camping club next week as they have some nice sites.

any sugestions?.

thanks,
doug.

For the UK, don't think there is one and it would be a brave site that only catered for motorhomes although there are ONE or TWO enlightened towns who provide overnight parking facilities but as far as I know they do not appear in any published guides.

A very informative piece of work which I congratulate you for. I hope you don't mind if I provide a link to it from my site? I didn't even know there were such things as limitations on size for on street parking. Never seen signs as such.

Graham - Here Here to all those who have congratulated and thanked you for such a useful survey and website.

I thought I would look up my local Shropshire Oswestry Council to see if they responded and what they had to say. On the plus side they did respond with clear information. On the minus side - when you look up the details - they obviously don't want MHs anywhere in the town. Only 2 Council car parks without 2m barriers and one is two miles from the town and the other 11miles! Of course sleeping in them would not be allowed. Any MHF comments on buses should be posted in the jokes forum Exclamation

There is a large car park right at the centre of Oswestry on the site of the towns old market but at night this is reserved for 'boy racers' to demonstrate to their friends how to be idiots at the wheel of a car and how to **** off anyone who doesn't think its cool. I must not be too bitter - I should add that the police have been trying to stop the annoyance since it made headline news in the local press.

Not yet owning an MH of my own I asked a neighbor with a Hymer where he would park if he drove into Oswestry 5 miles away. He said he didn't know - he would avoid ever taking it in.

Seems MHing still has a long way to go in this country Sad

Thanks for your comments Baldlygo. If you - and anyone else interested - think your local authority is (shall we say) less than constructive when it comes to MHs perhaps it may be something to raise with your local councillors - on the grounds that such an attitude may be detrimental to the local economy.

I would like to do that Graham but things are rather difficult for me at the moment and "in the air". I have just checked the MHF database and find a Wild Camping site at Whittington - less than 3 miles from Oswestry and 8 miles closer than one of the Council's car parks.

Anyone in RVs, MHs or Campervans are very welcome to visit my Oswestry-History Website and stay for as many nights as you like - free Exclamation Very Happy Wink
