we are going to view a hymer 644 - i think it is a fiat ducato based 2.5 engine from 1991 - any obvious things we should look out in this model van?

thanks in advance for any advice

Greetings,

We are getting a C644 in January, I have asked questions around and everyone seems the Hymer is a good buy, the Fiat cab is a good base and you should not encounter much trouble from that if it has been looked after.

The quality of build in a Hymer is far superior to many makes I have seen but you takes your choice and pays your money, I hope it is a wise choice for you.

You can have problems with all vans so it is best to get it checked out first and take someone with you who is used to motorhomes.

Not sure if this applies to you but in our Fiat based Hymer the gearbox is an issue. The fifth gear is an afterthought and if the gear box oil level is not slightly overfilled it does not receive full lubrication. One recommended fix is to change the oil level mark on the dipstick (gear box) to ensure a proper and consistent level. Ask the vendor, if he knows nothing it may well have not been properly lubricated!!!!
