Can any one please tell me if its essential to fit covers over the fridge vents when putting the motorhome away for winter? I have a sharkey m5 which was purchased from new in august 06, and in the manual it states that these fridge covers should be fitted. The motorhome is stored undercover , and had the water drained etc as per manual. Any other usefull info about winter storage greatly appreciated as im fairly new to all this! Thanks

I would have only thought the covers were of any use if you were using the MH over winter. I have already fitted mine but I will be out and about.
Maybe it is worthwile while parked I don't know

When you are not using the MH, winter or summer, I'd put the covers on the fridge vents. They keep out dust, water, excess cold and can only do good, not harm.

Being very nosy I'd ask why you are not going to use your MH over winter ?

I hope you do change your mind ! Winter is a lovely time to be out. Even on bleak miserable days it's lovely to be snug and warm and listen to the gale outside ! You'll be surprised how easy it is to get really toasty warm inside. Campsites are emptier but there are still plenty of people about so you don't feel lonely if you prefer company.

Between trips you do need to take precautions; as you've said, drain the water systems down and make sure taps are open and nothing that can freeze is left in. We leave bedclothes, towels and spare clothes in all year round - and we don't heat ours as it is some distance from home. I put all food into polythene boxes ( it's on a farm and I'm concerned about mice), draw the blinds and leave it.

It's much better for your MH to use it - less problems with tyres, engine and battery.
