Hello,

New to Your Site.....

We are planning to see the parents in Murcia (Spain) we have recently bought a Bessacarr E495 from a local dealer. We are leaving on the 18th Dec and have booked for a ferry that morning, we then plan to stop in Reims/Epernay for the first night. (we need some advice on a campsite there)

We then plan to go through 'Lyon' and stop for the second night somewhere around the south of france.

We then plan to drive from that stop either straight to Murcia (via the east side of spain) or possibly stop somewhere in spain to make the journey more comfortable.

All a bit new to us!

We would appreciate some advice on appropriate sites (4 children!!) and if this route/time would be to much of a strain for our first trip and possibly make more stops.

Thanks

Hiya, Lazzaman

Welcome to MHF. Sounds like a great journey to me (who has to stay in the UK all over the winter Crying or Very sad )

I'm sure someone will be along in a little while with information. We have a number of members who over-winter in Spain, and who do that sort of journey regularly.

Have you been away in the van at all yet? I presume you have, and have worked out what you need to take with you to keep with kids amused. Mind you, with 4 of them, do they amuse themselves? Wink

Sorry I can't be of any immediate help, but I will watch the answers with interest.

Gerald

Just remembered - there's some routes to Spain ** here **. There's discussion from experienced motorhomers about best routes, especially considering potential weather problems.

Hi Lazzaman,
I live just south of Perpignan and travel back to the UK a couple of times each year either by car or camper.
There is a cheaper route than going via Rheims, Lyons etc and it avoids the heavy traffic. Our route is Calais to Abbeville , Rouen, Evreux, Dreux, Chartres, Orleans,Vierzon. Then you have a choice of Clermont Ferrand and Millau which can be hard driving if one is fully loaded and can be liable to bad conditions (snow) in winter, Alternatively one can continue from Vierzon via Chateauroux,Limoges,Brive, Cahors,Montauban, Toulouse,Narbonne,Perpignan. I prefer this route as it is not as busy and the road south of Rouen is now either Autoroute or dual carriageway and long stretches are free from tolls. Campsites in winter are not plentiful and we usually stop the first night at Baie de Somme service area just before Abbeville on the A16. for our next stop we stay at a municipal site at Morterolles sur Semme Jct 23a on the A20 just north of Bessines. Your next stop could be at Camping les Thermes on the N9 at Le Boulou which is the very last exit before the border with Spain south of Perpignan. From here to Murcia it is still around 550 miles so you will probably need another stop in Spain. We are going to be at Bonterra Park at Bennicassim over Christmas and that is about the 300 mile mark so I would suggest you might try there although a lot of Spanish sites will be full. I am sure a lot of readers are familiar with this route but it may be of assistance to those who haven't tried it as yet. Hope this is of some assistance.

Regards Tom
